difficulties may be.

Itisoftendifficultforustoanswerwhenweareasked'WhatdoesTirDewido?'becausetherangeofthe support
weprovideissobroad.ItcanbeachatonourFreephoneHelplinewithafarmerwhojustneedstoletoff steam
or,perhapsaskaquestion,oritcanbemanymonthsofourvolunteersworkingwithafarmertosupportthem with
multipleissues.Wealsooftenliaisewiththirdpartiesandbringinothersupportagencieswhereappropriate. And
anything in between.
```

Therealityisthatmostofthefarmersthatwespeakwitharestrugglingwithmultipleissuesincluding practical
ones,administration,financialandregulatory.Thesearecompoundedbyconcernsoverupcomingchanges to
policyincludingtheintroductionofthe'NitrateVulnerableZones(NVZ)'Legislationandthe'Sustainable Farming'
changestogovernmentfarmsupportfollowingtheexitfromtheEUandtheCommonAgriculture Policy.We
suggestedlastyearthatthesechangesaregoingtobehugeandthatthereisalsosignificantuncertainty around
them,makinglong-termplanningdifficultandcausinggreatconcern.Unfortunately,thesituationremains similar
today.Whileinformationonwhatwillqualifyforsupportschemesisbecomingclearer,howtogoaboutitis still
broadlyunknown.WhileCovidisnolongerarestrictivefactoronfarming,BovineTBisstillpresent and
frustrations around it growing as it is also taking hold in North Wales - an area where it was previously absent.
```

Costoflivinghasbeenthefocusofmuchofthenewsinthisperiodwithinflationreachingover10%inthe UK.
Onceagainfarminghasbeenhitreallyhardasitwasrecentlycalculatedthatinflationinfarminghadbeen 36%.
TheongoingwarinUkrainecontinuestobeacontributoryfactorinthis.Copingwiththeseadditionalcostsina low
margin business is incredibly difficult and, again has simply added to pressures.
```

Finally,wearefrequentlyaskedforsupportwhenpoorhealthhitsafarmingfamily,andthisincludes physical
healthandmentalhealth.Encouragingly,wenowhaveanumberofreferralsfromNHSsourcesincluding hospitals
and GPs as they recognise the value we can bring to a patient's recovery.
```

## **`How we do it`**

Themajorityofthesupportthatweprovideisdeliveredbyvolunteers.Theyaresupportedbythestaff team
throughrecruitment,training,safeguarding,deployingandsupportingcasework,buttheworkwhichdefines our
purposeisdeliveredbyourvolunteers-thestaffareheretoenableitandalsohelpdirectlyonsomeofthe more
complex cases.
```

Workdonebythevolunteersincludescasework,answeringtheHelpline,supportwithpromotion,translation, IT,
press,mediaandsocialmediaworkand,ofcourseformourboardofTrustees.OurFreephoneHelplineis open
everydayoftheyearfrom7.00amto10.00pmandthisyearwealsointroducedaWelshlanguageoption when
answered so that farmers can chose which language they want to use.
```

Partnershipswithotherorganisationsareessentialtowhatwedo-wedon'tpretendthatwecansortout all
problemsandarehappytointroduceothersintoacasewheretheirsupportismoreappropriatethanours (always
withthenecessarypermissionstoprotectfarmersandsatisfyGDPRrequirements).Keyamongthesepartners are
otherfarmingcharitiesincludingRABI,TheDPJFoundationandFCN,butitalsoextendstoother 'mainstream'
charitiessuchasMcMillanortheParkinson'sSocietyas,ofcourse,farmerssufferfromcancerandother conditions
too.Thesepartnersalsorefercasestousiftheybelievewearebestplacedtoprovidethesupport needed.
Duringthisreportingperiod,thenumberofreferralsofthisnaturehasincreasedsignificantlyasall organisations
get to know each other better and grow to trust the work that they can do.

TirDewiisalsoapartoftheWelshFarmSupportGroupoforganisationsalongsideotherfarmingcharities and
WelshGovernmentwhichhelpsustobuildrelationshipsbutalsofeedbackourconcernstoWelshGovernment. We
arealsopartofthePrinces'CountrysideFund'sFarmSupportGroupwhichcomprisessimilarorganisations across
the UK, enabling an exchange of best practice and mutual support across the group.

9,7Trusteesand65volunteers.Additionally,wehaveaNorthWalesManagementCommitteewith6members, 2
of whom sit as Trustees.

OurYoungFarmer'sProjecthascontinuedtoevolve,buildingawarenessofTirDewiandencouragingthosein need
to ask for help through working with relevant groups, media work and frequent visits to shows and marts.

WelaunchedClwbFfermwyrMônlastyearanditwasagreatsuccess.Followingthis,wehadadvancedplans to
launch two new branches as the end of this reporting period approached - Llyn and Clwyd.
```

Sinceourformation,everythingthatwehavedonehasbeenavailableinWelsh.Ourcommitmenttothis is
unchanged.ThehugemajorityofwhatwedoisinWelsh,7ofour9colleaguesareWelshspeakers,6ofour 7
Trusteesdoandaround70%ofourvolunteersdo.TheWelshlanguageisgreatlysupportedbyfarmingandwe, in
turn both recognise and support that.

## **`ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE Charitable activities Cases`**

BytheendofthisreportingperiodTirDewihasprovidedsupportonover500casesandtowellover 2,000
individuals.Therateofnewcasereferralsisthehighestithaseverbeenandfutureneedseemstobe increasing.
This also reflects the growth in awareness of Tir Dewi and trust in what we do.
```

Thevarietyofissuesandcombinationsofissuesremainsalmostinfiniteincludingfinancialworries, relationship
breakdowns, problems with suppliers, physical health and the consequences of poor mental health and wellbeing.
Thenatureofcasescontinuestovarywidelyincludingthosewhojustwantsomeonetotalkto-tooffloador air
theirthoughts.Thisisareflectionofthesignificantisolationinwhichmanyfarmersoperate.Othershave more
practicalneeds-aproblemthatneedssortingoutand,forwhateverreasontheyjusthaven'tbeenableto deal
withit.Alltoooften,though,acasewillleadustoafarmerwhoisinuttercrisis-dealingwithsomany problems
andissuesallatoncethattheyhavestoppedcoping.Here,ourengagementcanlastmanyweeksor months,
include several third parties and often 2 or 3 of our team.
```

Casenumbersduringtheyeararearound140butwithanoticeableincreaseintherateofreferralstowards the
endoftheyear.Wesuspectthecomingyearwillbebusierstill.Wehavebeguntheprocessofimplementing a
newDatabase/CRMsystemintoTirDewiwhichwillenableustorecord,storeandprotectourdataaswell as
record outcomes and impacts more securely.
```

Towardstheendofthisreportingperiodwehaveseenasignificantup-turnintherateofnewrequestsfor support
butarealsonoticingthatmoreofourcasesareofthecomplexvariety.Again,wesuspectthatthisis because
morefarmersknowaboutusandtrustthatthesupportweprovideisconfidential,butitisstillaworrying trend
that also suggests that there is more demand to come.
```

ChangestofarmpoliciesincludingNVZsandchangestotheBasicFarmPaymentarebothgoingtohavean impact
thisyearandforyearstocomeandthisislikelytoleadtomanyhundreds,oreventhousandsoffarm failures
acrossWales.Whilesomewillrecognisetheinevitableconsequencesandsell,manywilltrytostruggleonand will
gradually fail and fall further into crisis.  Tir Dewi needs to be here to support these.
```

## **`Staff`**

Asgrowthhascontinued,sothepressuresontheteamhavealsoincreased.Wehave,therefore,made further
significantchangestotheshapeoftheoperation.Wehaveincreasedourstaffnumberstonine(onefulltime and
8parttime),wehavetakenallvolunteertrainingbackin-house,andhaveintroducednewsafeguarding and
supervisionsessionsforvolunteers.Wehavere-organisedalongfunctionallinesandnowhaveateamworking on
theoperationalside(includingcasework,helplineandvolunteers),andanotherteamworkingon promotions,
communications,partneringandattendingshowsandmarts.Thisallowscolleaguestodevelop stronger
specialisms and to focus on what they do best.

Thestaffteamareamazing-theycontinuetodeliverexceptionallevelsofsupportandoutcomesanddeputise for
each other with ease.  We couldn't be more proud of them.
```

## **`Volunteers`**

Werecognisethatweaskalotofourvolunteersandtheyrespondamazingly.Theworktheydoisexceptional and
itisclearthat,betweenthemtheyaresavingfarmsfromfailure,savingrelationshipsinfamilies,with communities
andcommercialrelationships,andtheyarehelpingtosavelives.Volunteernumbersremainquitestablethis year
butthecommitmentofmanyhasincreased.Westillhavearound65volunteershelpinginavarietyof amazing
ways.

AllvolunteersareDBSchecked,receiveaninductionincludingsafeguardingtrainingbeforetheycando case-work
and are offered a range of training subsequently, both online and face-to-face.

promotionandpresswork.Thesepartnershipshavebeenenormouslysuccessfulatenablingafar wider,
comprehensivesupportstructureforfarmersandwerecognisethatwithoutthem,ourworkwouldbemuch harder,
and less effective for a farmer.

ThepressandmediacontinuetoshowaninterestinTirDewiandoftenapproachusforcommentonpieces that
theyaredoingonfarming.WearearegularcontributoronBBCRadioWalesandRadioCymru,havespoken on
manylocalradiostationsandpodcastsandhavealsobeenfeaturedonanumberofTVshowsincluding farming
weekly shows. Social media seems an ever present these days and we try to do our part on the major channels.
```

Throughtheamazingsupportofallofourfundersanddonors,ourincomeincreasedfrom£163,371in2022 to
£285,294.Expenditurehasalsoincreasedsignificantlyfrom£165,523to£230,130inthesameperiod.This has
leftuswithasurplusof£55,164.Wehavereservesofjustover£121,000andarecomfortablethatthisis a
reasonable position for Tir Dewi to be in at this stage.

On2ndJune2023wewillformallylaunchintothethreecountiesofFlintshire,DenbighshireandWrexham. We
alsointendlaunchingacrosstheremainderofWalesintheensuing18monthsincludingpartsofPowysand the
south East of Wales.

Giventheincreaseinreferralsalreadybeingexperiencedandtheadditionalchallengesapproachingforfarming, we
anticipate being busier and busier for the coming year and well beyond.

relationshipswithpartnerorganisationsastheyeardevelops.ThesearelikelytoincludetheRuralPolice teams,
