## **BOCCIA SHEFFIELD**

**Annual Report and Accounts for the Year 1[st] July 2020 to 30[th] June 2021**

**Boccia Sheffield is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) Registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales No 1179188**

## **Chairman’s Report**

The past 12 months have seen a very challenging time for everyone, and this includes the members of our Boccia Club. The passion of our players is incredible but the past 12 months have proved a real challenge for all of you to undertake any form of training. Boccia England have produced the Rainbow Cup challenges which has seen several athletes attempt these at home. There is no doubt that we are missing being on the court together and we can’t wait to get back to playing Boccia as soon as it is safe to do so.

## **Update on Coaches**

Since the last Chairman’s report there is not much update on the coaches. We still have a strong core squad of 4 coaches. The biggest news is that Al has stepped down from the Knight’s Academy coaching team which allows Al to have more time to commit Boccia Sheffield. Although Al has been part of the coaching team for a long time we welcome the news as Al is a committed and extremely good coach at our club. Jenna will be taking some time out in November for a short period and will return in the New Year.

## **Update on Competitions**

Unfortunately, due to the pandemic all face-to-face competitions have been cancelled within the last 12 months. However, it has been nice to see some athletes take part in the Rainbow Cup challenges that have been set by Boccia England. I think this has certainly provided a focus for some athletes whilst in lockdown. A special mention goes to Amy Darlow, Craig Williams and Lee Croker for their commitment to the competitions across the year.

Even though we haven’t seen any face-to-face competitions it has been great to catch up with everyone on zoom from time to time. This has given us the opportunity to run friendly, non-competitive quizzes for everyone to enjoy. I say non-competitive, however I know there were some members who definitely wanted to win!

## **Funding**

The club is still in a very healthy state with its finances and allows us to continue to pay for annual Boccia England memberships and competition fees for our athletes. We recognise the importance of this as it allows everyone to train, compete and be part of the Boccia set up. We also have the Amazon Smile page which gives a small donation to our club every time that someone purchases something from Amazon.

## **School-Club Links**

We continue to have strong links with Talbot Specialist School, bringing in several current and ex students into the club. We have also entered the first round of the virtual school’s competition where students completed tasks at school and then we submitted the scores to Boccia England. We are hoping that we can continue this in the current year.

## **Home Tournaments**

The last 12 months has seen no home tournaments being played. When we feel it is safe to do so it is the intention of the club to get the tournaments back up and running again.

## **The Upcoming Season**

We are all hoping that the new season will bring much more face-to-face boccia both in competitions and in training. Boccia England have completed a very successful test event, running the back to boccia cup which saw several athletes compete. They have also set several dates for new competitions in the upcoming season, this is very exciting for all athletes.

We have seen a successful return to training over recent weeks and this is something we will look to continue throughout the new season. Our main priority is to keep athletes training as safely as possible. It is great to have you back on court and we hope this will continue throughout the winter months.

We have found ourselves at the end of another turbulent 12 months but I would to take this opportunity to thank the dedicated team of Athletes, Coaches, Parents and PAs who have continued to support the club through this difficult period. We hope that we continue moving in the right direction and can’t wait to keep playing boccia!

## **Secretary’s Report**

Due to Covid-19, it has been another quiet year from the Secretary’s point of view. The main activities have been monitoring the communications from the UK government, from Boccia England and Special Olympics, completing online Covid-19 Awareness Training and liaising with Mark and Jenna concerning when the club can return to something approaching normal activity.

Ian Woodward Secretary - Boccia Sheffield

## **Treasurer’s Report**

This will be a very short report, as there is very little to say. The lack of competitions, Boccia England’s very welcome suspension of all membership fees and no invoices from Special Olympics has meant that very little has happened to the club’s financial position.

In the last year, there were only three receipts, totalling £18.77 - all of which came from Amazon Smile - and one payment of £3.70 for postage.

When shopping at Amazon, please consider using this link, which will earn the club a small amount of money at no cost to you - https://smile.amazon.co.uk/ch/1179188-0

## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT TO THE MEMBERS / TRUSTEES OF BOCCIA SHEFFIELD**

## **Respective Responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner**

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).

The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Act and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

- examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act,

- to follow the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Act, and

- to state whether particular matters have come to my attention

## **Basis of Independent Examiner’s Statement**

My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

## **Independent Examiner's Statement**

In connection with my examination, no material matters have come to my attention which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

- accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act or

- the accounts do not accord with the accounting records

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
