living stones EDUCATIONAL TRUST Chair's Annual Report 2025 JULY 2026 **LSET Chair’s Annual Report 2025** ## **The Aims of LSET** To advance the Christian religion …amongst young people of school age in Newton Heath and the surrounding areas by providing advice and assistance and organising programmes of educational, physical and other activities as a means of: - advancing in life and helping young people to develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as independent, mature and responsible individuals. - advancing education. - providing recreational and leisure time activity in the interests of social welfare for people living in the area of benefit who have need …with a view to improving the conditions of life. ## **Trustees** - Trustees throughout 2025 were Dave Butt (Chair), Gordon Flear (Treasurer), Derek Purnell, Charis Smith, Mary Butt. - The Trustees met 6 times during 2025. Their role is for governance, direction, and emotional support. - Trustee met for an ‘away day’ where we reviewed the previously developed Governance Action Plan and considered processes in 2026 following the ‘retirement’ of Gordon Flear as Treasurer at the end of the year. - Trustees have been working through several changes with Hannah to develop the work of LSET under the hand of God. - The Trustees have continued to work well together but continued to look for new Trustees to join them. Derek Purnel has indicated that he needs to step-down for health reasons as soon as he can. Gordon Flear (Treasurer) gave a significant period of notice that he would be stepping down at the end of the year, Dave Butt (Chair) also gave notice of his intention to step down following the 2026 AGM. We therefore need a Treasurer urgently and a new Chair. Other trustees will soon come to the end of their term of office. - The Trustees are looking to establish the role of Charity Secretary from amongst their number. **Chair’s Annual Report 2025 | AGM 10[th] July 26** **Charis Smith | 1 -LSET** ## **LSET Chair’s Annual Report 2025** ## **Scripture Union Partnership** - LSET has been a local mission partner of Scripture Union (SU) since its inception. - SU has been a source of encouragement and support for Hannah. - LSET and its work in Newton Heath benefit from the support and resources they provide. ## **School Activities** ## **School Games club** - With the number of pupils coming to games club, and other school activities, it was put on hold over the summer term - Restarting in the Autumn term with a new year group, Games Club is once again a popular part of school life. By necessity there has been a change of volunteer, this is working well. ## **TLG Coaching** - Coaching continued at All Saints, St Augustine’s, Saviour Primary Schools and Co-op Academy, Failsworth. Finishing at St Augustine’s and Saviour as Hannah finished her employed role with the church connected with these schools. - One of our coached children and their LSET volunteer coach contributed to a TLG funding raising event. - All Saint’s responded very generously to a request from our Chair for financial support. Unfortunately, Co-Op Academy Failsworth did not offer any financial support. ## **Transition Work** - Hannah and Charis delivered the transition programme in the June/July half-term of 2025. ## **Workshops & Lessons** - There were limited opportunities to offer other workshops and lessons, apart from the ‘It’s Your Move’ transition workshop, in 2025. **Chair’s Annual Report 2025 | AGM 10[th] July 26** **Charis Smith | 2 -LSET** ## **LSET Chair’s Annual Report 2025** ## **Pupil Chaplains** - An exciting new development in the Autumn term in LSET’s relationship with All Saints School. Hannah works with a group of children to help them prepare collective worship that they deliver to their peers. ## **Christmas in a Box** - ‘Christmas in a Box’ was successfully delivered in All Saint’s and St Augustine’s Primary schools, with the support of volunteers from local churches. ## **Community Activities** ## **Community Presence** - Newton Heath Christmas Lights Switch On - Christmas Fayre in Brookdale Park. - Being present in Newton Heath Library ## **Homework Club** - After spending time in the library and having lots of success in terms of the number of families engaging with Hannah, the Homework Club was reestablished in a new venue of the library on Tuesdays. - Two members of staff were employed on a sessional basis from the MCC Youth & Play funding to help run this session. - Due to the number of attendees, an additional ‘Stay, Play & Learn sessions were established at Heathfield Church on Mondays after school. ## **Board Games Club** - Hannah spent much of the year considering how to improve the impact of Games Club hosted by Heathfield Church. - The decision was made that the best way forward was to hand over Games Club to Heathfield Church to run. **Chair’s Annual Report 2025 | AGM 10[th] July 26** **Charis Smith | 3 -LSET** ## **LSET Chair’s Annual Report 2025** ## **Other Activities** - Various trips and activities have taken place throughout the year. - Hannah’s relationship with the East Manchester Youth and Play Partnership continues to bear fruit for LSET. - In September we marked 10 Years of Homework Club with a celebration hosted by Heathfield Church.
