**LSET Annual Report 2021** ## **LSET Trustees** We met 6 times, both on Zoom and in person. We have continued to support Hannah in the work and by providing governance and procedures to manage the ongoing changing situation. Peter, our chair, was most active in both ensuring Hannah got the right support, and making sure what work could happen, did happen. Unfortunately, Peter became ill after an operation in the Autumn and sadly died in November. He will be sorely missed as Chair of the Trustees, as a member of Homework Club, as well as being involved in almost everything LSET! We give God thanks for Peter. ## **Trustees report of year** Covid brought lots of disruption and we had a lot fewer people around. The solution was to look at what could happen, and we explored a lot of possibilities. Not all of these came to fruition, but a lot of time and effort was put into keeping the core aims of LSET alive. It was very much “do what you can”, which we did! Our Core aims are; - To advance the Christian religion …amongst young people of school age in Newton Heath and the surrounding areas. - To act as a resource for young people, up to the age of 16, living in Newton Heath and the surrounding areas, by providing advice and assistance and organising programmes of educational, physical and other activities as a means of: - advancing in life and helping young people to develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as independent, mature and responsible individuals; - advancing education; - providing recreational and leisure time activity in the interests of social welfare for people living in the area of benefit who have need …with a view to improving the conditions of life. A lot of activity moved online, or “at a distance”, and there was a major expansion in providing resources directly to families. This was done in the form of 3 different “boxes” for local families; - Things to do - Food - General help The responses to the boxes included such things as, “very useful” and “just what we needed”. The boxes were delivered at the start of year, spring, Easter & Summer 2021. A total of 64 deliveries were made to 16 families and impacted on the lives of 39 children. Other activities continued in various ways; ## **Open The Book- assemblies** Schools have always valued this resource very highly. They continued in three ways during 2021! - **Spring Term** , they were produced online which required volunteers to film their sections at home, with Hannah editing the final video. - **Summer Term** , other videos were used. - **Autumn Term** , face-to-face assemblies in school could start again. - A total of 31 videos were recorded and shared online between November 2020 & July 2021. ## **TLG Coaching** In person coaching had to stop at the start of the year, at this time our coaching team stepped down. Contact was maintained with 1 or 2 children. A major influx of volunteers in the Autumn term meant that there were 7 potential coaches with interest from 2 schools for coaching to take place. Training and other work together as a team took place and 2 new coaching sessions have begun. It is a frustration that there has been considerable wait for other children to be referred. The year has seen 5 new coaches plus Hannah, 3 are coaching in All Saints and 3 are waiting to coach in Holy Trinity. ## **Homework Club** Due to Covid restrictions Homework Club was only able to meet for a few outside trips in the summer. Hannah kept in touch with families throughout the year and supported them with the Boxes and other materials. Unfortunately, due to a lack of volunteers it wasn’t possible to open during the Autumn term. ## **Games Club** Once again due to Covid restrictions Games Club wasn’t able to meet for most of the year. It is a great encouragement that it has been able to start up again in early 2022. ## **Transition work** A lot of effort was put into applying for funding and preparation for transition work for a group of children in Year 6 at All Saints. Unfortunately, the Covid restrictions in place at the end of the Summer term meant this this could not take place. A year on and yesterday Hannah and a volunteer began Transition workshops with 2 groups in All Saints yesterday. ## **Scripture Union Mission Partnership** LSET has been an SU Mission Partner since coming into existence. The partnership has bee a great source of encouragement and support for Hannah. The SU North team have organised regular online prayer catch ups, and a gathering. LSET and our work in Newton Heath benefits from the support and resources they provide. ## **Funding 2021** Funding has been achieved from a number of trustees, grants making bodies, churches and individuals in 2021.
