Trustees Annual Report
Objectives
The aim of the Llandeilo Literature Festival is to advance the arts, culture, and heritage for public benefit. We achieve this primarily through the organisation of an annual literature festival in Llandeilo, though our remit is not limited to this activity alone.
In pursuing this objective, the charity aims to:
-
Promote Welsh and local authors.
-
Showcase literature in both the Welsh and English languages, including poetry, storytelling, and diverse forms of writing.
-
Celebrate and preserve the richness of Welsh culture and its literary heritage.
Summary
The 2025 festival spanned three days, taking place across multiple venues with both daytime and evening events. In total, we hosted 60 individual sessions, in addition to a school’s outreach day held several weeks prior to the main festival.
We were proud to receive grant funding of £7550 and generous sponsorship from local businesses totalling over £5000. Ticket sales after processing fees reached over £11,000.
Our programme featured a wide range of topics relevant to Wales, with contributions from prominent environmentalists, journalists, politicians, and social advocates. Sessions also explored Welsh history, art, crafts, and contemporary culture.
The popular "Kids Fest at the Lit Fest" was held at Yr Hen Farchnad, featuring free activities and children’s author talks significantly increasing public interest and attendance from 2024. Storytelling and live music recitals throughout the town further enriched the festival atmosphere.
The charity also established a new partnership with Pride Llandeilo to deliver “Pride @ Lit Fest,” a curated programme of LGBTQ+ talks and events, reflecting the charity’s commitment to inclusivity and representation.
Achievements
Feedback from both visitors and local businesses was overwhelmingly positive. Our evaluation forms showed high satisfaction across the board, with top ratings given for venue quality, speaker calibre, value for money, overall experience, and marketing.
The festival is more than just an entertainment event; it has become a cultural and educational cornerstone for the region. It fosters community spirit, promotes inclusivity, combats social isolation, and stimulates the local economy—offering meaningful benefits to residents of Llandeilo and across southwest Wales.
