SHARED AREA

Annual report and accounts from the trustees of Shared Area for the reporting year 5[th ] April 2023 - This report complies with the Charities Act 2011.

Charitable Purpose and Aims of Shared Area

The charitable purpose and aim of Shared Area is to provide free education to everyone.

“To advance the education of the public, in particular but not exclusively, in the UK government key-stage subjects and curriculums, by the provision of structured educational media and learning resources.” - Shared Area Governing document

The trustees of Shared Area believe that everybody should have access to free education, regardless of their background, location, or personal circumstance. It is Shared Area's commitment to provide free educational content that is:

Accurate,

Correct,

and most importantly...

Safe!

SHARED AREA

For years, when people needed to learn, they would physically go to a library to search through books. Now, when people need to learn, they use search engines or AI assistants. The result is often a lot of time lost from searching through unrelated or paid-for learning content.

Shared Area is building the library of the future!

Every lesson,

Verified as safe!

There are 8.7 million school children in England !

There are 450,000 school teachers in England

If each secondary school teacher in England shared one short teaching video, and one test question, on one small topic in their specialist subject area,

there would be 200,000 Videos and 200,000 Test Questions for GCSE learning!

Imagine if every teacher in the UK added one video every year!

- Primary Objective Safeguarding people

Imagine a place that is safe!

Free from prejudice. Free from discrimination.

A place where every lesson is guaranteed to be: True, Correct, Accurate & non-abusive!

A place that is safe for everyone to learn regardless of their age, gender or beliefs.

No lies, no clickbait, no trolls.

The ultimate Aim of Shared Area is to provide freely accessible learning and self-testing content for all subjects at all levels.

Our primary objective is Safeguarding content and users to ensure a safe learning space for everyone.

How we keep it safe, is simple!

If each teacher watches 10 short videos to verify each video is:

Safe for anyone to view, Correct and holds true information Non-offensive, Relevant for the level of study.

We can guarantee that all content is Safe!

Each video will have to be verified by at least 10 teachers to ensure it is Safe For Schools (SFS)! Safe for everyone!

- Secondary Objective GCSE learning content

Our secondary objective is to initially focus on the learning requirements of the core GCSE S subjects, before expanding subjects and levels.

The average learner will sit around 10 GCSEs. This equals around 400 learning requirements (things that can be tested or observed)

If each teacher recorded one lesson and one test question on their specialist subject,

There would be ~500 videos and ~500 test questions For each of the 400 learning requirements!

Figure.1 shows the number of secondary teachers in England (200,000) compared to the number of learning requirement for 10 GCSE's (400)

(200,000 divided by 400 equals 500 videos for each learning requirement.

That would be a huge amount of help to those studying GCSEs!)

The best thing about Shared Area!

Is that it lasts forever !

And it’s free !

To ! everyone

Everyone on the globe will soon have a smart device with a screen and internet connection.

Everyone will have access forever!

- Tertiary Objective Tags!

Videos will no longer be found by click-bait titles, paid promotions and intrusive advertisements!

But instead found by subject and topic

Videos will be rated by viewers, with only positive ratings allowed, as negative ratings and comments are not necessary!

By adding not only ratings, but also adding tags, you can truly find the right content that suites your style of learning. Tags like, Funny, short, wordy, demonstration, exciting, pictures, animation.

With over 3Million secondary school children in England,

if each child watches and rates just 4 videos then each video will be rated by 60 learners! So that when you look for a video, you can find they style you like! Whether that be someone talking to the camera, someone talking over slides, animated videos, or any styles you can imagine...

Over the Last year:

A message from founding trustee Peter Brewer

During the last year it was the goal of Shared Area to fully launch to the public. However, co-founding trustees David Brewer and Clare Vitulli are no longer able to fulfill this duty at present. Clare needed to attend to family commitments and sadly, David Brewer passed away after a short battle with dementia, standing as a reminder of how important it is to capture knowledge, and experience, before it is lost forever. With two trustee roles to fill, you can imagine the huge amount of consideration and thought that needed to be taken. It is with great pleasure that I introduce our two new trustees. Miss Marie Holman and professor Rustam Stolkin. Both of these individuals I have a huge amount of respect for, and faith in, to help deliver Shared Areas vision.

Miss Marie Holman

To learn, there are often human factors we need to consider. Feeling safe, supported and being ready to learn can have a huge influence on how we learn. Marie is a Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist for Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust and a registered professional with the healthcare professions Council. With nearly two decades of working in a professional healthcare setting, Marie currently works with vulnerable individuals with moderate to severe learning difficulties and enduring, often treatment resistant, mental health diagnosis. Marie's work and passion focuses on rehabilitative development of core functional skills to support successful integration into the community, in the least restrictive way by supporting individuals to develop the skills to live an enjoyable fulfilling life as independently as possible. Marie is ideally suited for supporting the needs and views of the human element for learning and the human sensory needs. Marie is a mother of GCSE age children and a science degree graduate. Marie, I am certain will bring a focus on the people element of Shared Area. I am extremely pleased to have Marie’s input, guidance, support and leadership to help steer this charity's vision, for the future good of education.

Rustam Stolkin

Professor Rustam Stolkin is a leading figure in robotics and artificial intelligence research, focusing on robotics in extreme environments. Rustam has given a huge amount to educational outreach throughout his career and continues to do so. Each year professor Stolkin delivers educational lectures at the Royal Institution London to young people interested in robotics and supports a huge number of outreach projects through his extreme robotics lab. Rustam and his team have delivered educational Robotics, mechanics and computer master classes across England and in the USA with a focus on both inspiring young learners and providing teachers with teaching resources. I have worked with Rustam over a number of years and I know him to be an exceptional leader in scientific research for both small and large multi partner research projects. With professor Stolkin's guidance and assistance, I know that Shared Area will be able to navigate the complex world of artificial intelligence.

2024 and beyond!
