The Trustees Report

Objectives of Guru Panth Trust (UK)

The advancement of Sikhism in the UK and Worldwide mainly but not exclusively by means of:

(II) Relieving poverty by providing funding to those in need

This is carried out as follows:

Projects undertaken this year:

The charity has successful helped many poor families mainly from the Gurdaspur/Punjab area.

We have started up sewing centres to allow women to learn new skills which will help them start up a ￿sinesS and generate income for their family. Women have become independent and confident. This has reduced the financial stress of male figures in families who have been struggling with the burden of loans taken to continue their farming businesses. Many fanners have been committing suicide in Punjab as they are unable to pay off their debts. Our main aim has been to support women so that they can generate another stream of income and meet all financial reqLtirements to maintain a good quality of lrfe for their families. During the coronavlrus pandemic and floods in Punjab we have been folbwing one of the main principles of the Sikh Religion which is'selfiess Seryice. by providin8 food and basic ne￿s51t1es for those in need. We have helped poor families with wedding expenses such a5 Outfits, necessities etc. On many occasions we have builtlrepaired homes to ensure those in need are living in safe surroundings. Future lans Continue to build our team so that we can help people from different areas in Punjab. This wlll be done by recruiting more volunteers from different distritts in Punjab that can help identify areas with high poverty levels. We have been able to help people in Amritsar, Tam Taran and Gurdaspur districts this year. We are working with local Gurdwaras to help u5 raise awareness of Sikhism and help families learn prayers which will create a positive environment in village5 and reduce consumptlon of drugs/alcohol. Most work is carried out by volunteers in the UK and in India and fundraising 15 carried out using medi3 in the UK. We present family cases on Social media and explain their current situations and struggles and carry out an appeal for the relevant funds required to solve the difficvltie5 of each familv.
