Summary of SES Chair: 

Somali Ecological Society (SESj has suffered some unfortunate setbacks due to the passing of it’s chair and the members lost interest and motivation 

However, SES continues to champion its cause and we remain confident the charity will land its first substantial project soon. 

Our trustees continue with their enthusiasm and drive, as do our supporters and partners, who all share our aims for a stable and secure environment in the Horn of Africa and neighbouring countries for all to enjoy for generations to come. 

Amongst main achievement during this period included the following: 

~ SES is now fully registered international environmental NGO in Somalia and Somaliland,

## a. Objects (Organizational Aims) 

SES's objects (aims), as contained in our constitution are: 

1. To promote ecologically sustainable development for the benefit of the public in Somalia (including Somaliland), and to a lesser extent, the surrounding Horn of Africa countries Djibouti, 

Eritrea, Ethiopia (known as the area of benefit) by: the preservation, conservation and the protection of the environment and the prudent use of natural resources ii. The relief of poverty and the improvement of the conditions of life in socially and poor communities 

iii. The promotion of sustainable means of achieving economic growth and regeneration. 

2. To build the capacity of local non-governmental organisations in benefit and provide 



them with the necessary support, information, and services to enable them to pursue or contribute to charitable activity of 

i. the preservation, conservation and the protection of the environment and the prudent use o of natural resources 

ii. the relief of poverty and the improvement of the conditions of life in socially and poor communities 

iii. the promotion of ecologically sustainable means of achieving economic growth and regeneration. 

3. To advance the education of the public in subjects related to ecologically sustainable development and the protection, enhancement, and rehabilitation of the environment in benefit and to promote study and research in such subjects provided that the useful results of such study are disseminated to the public at large. 

4. To promote for the public benefit in benefit the conservation and protection of the ecology and the environment through heritage, including art and culture activities. Sustainable development means "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs". 

b. Finance summary 

SES has limited resources to undertake continued activities. As such, the charity is currently focusing on: 

- ~ Securing income to deliver projects that further its aims 

- ~ Undertaking preliminary research that helps to attract and direct future investment for projects. 

3. Structure, Governance and Management 

SES is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), whose constitution was revised in Feb 2018 and 

presented with its application to be registered with the Charity Commission. SES was finally approved as a CIO in July 2018. 

SES is voluntarily led by trustees, who are bound by its constitution. All SES trustees are unpaid. SES 

has no permanent paid members of staff.
