The Friends of the Church of St Philleigh Charity Number 1179007
Registered address: Lemon Chapel Cottage Philleigh TRURO TR2 5ND
Trustees: Robert David Clifford-Wing, Shirley Pascoe, Anne Merryl Treverton, Philip George Robinson, Clare Elizabeth Freeth, Ann Elizabeth Palmer.
The Friends structure is very simple. The board of six Trustees meet about 6 times per year to make decisions about the fundraising activities and to direct the many volunteers who carry those out. A chairperson is elected each year from among the six trustees.
During 2024 we had three main fundraising events, two of which were our usual “Philleigh Fayres” and the other was a new type of event called a “Fun Ride” where riders book in to use a woodland and farmland riding route one particular day in June. The objective of these events was to raise funds for the upkeep of the church of St Philleigh for the benefit of the parishioners and also for the holiday visitors to Cornwall who like to visit the church. These holidaymakers also have a great deal of fun at the events! The weather was kind to us for all three events and the income achieved was sufficient to support the church for another year. We made grants of £13,106.79 to the Parochial Church Council for a variety of projects including electrical work, tree surgery, churchyard upkeep, walling and the insurance for the building. This helps to keep the church open for services, weddings and baptisms and funerals and as a place of quiet contemplation in between.
Our funds are held in two accounts, a current account which stood at £24,624.13 at the end of the year, and a savings account which had £41,621.15 by 31[st] Dec 2024. There were no debts. The savings account contains our reserves. Our policy is to retain sufficient funds in this reserve to meet the known needs of the PCC during the coming year and also to provide for unforeseen expenses for instance work required after a quinquennial inspection (which is due in 2025). We do not hold any funds as custodian trustees.
