## **The advancement of citizenship.** 

Members give their time weekly to plan future fundraising events, in particular, a major effort was put into effect to support the Serenity Suite Appeal for the Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospital Trust through the Lions Clubs International Foundation and other members of the community, plus community groups seeking our help. 

## **Promoting the voluntary sector to the public benefit.** 

The continued use of social media, magazine publications and membership campaigns to encourage others to get involved and to give for the public good.  Indeed, our club membership and involvement of volunteers continues to grow. 

## **Promoting volunteering.** 

We promote our fundraising and grant making through social media platforms, as well as press and magazine releases. We let it be known that volunteering supports community groups and individuals, often in the most difficult of circumstances, but to bring help to those in need of our support and always maintaining due diligence and total confidentiality. 

## **Relief of poverty and the relief of those in need.** 

£2500 was provided to support local food banks and food hubs for Christmas Hampers. Equipment was provided in the form of replacement wheelchair batteries and washing machines for those in need. Significant support (£2350) was provided to local schools for educational needs and sensory equipment. Financial support (£1000) was provided to a local man following a serious disabling stroke. 

## **Providing humanitarian aid and disaster relief.** 

The following appeals were supported: Pakistan Disaster Appeal, Ukraine Appeal, the Turkey & Syria Appeal, the Samaritans and the St. John’s Hospice. 

## **The advancement of health and the saving of lives.** 

Our club has a well-developed system for the collection of used spectacles for distribution to less developed countries. Message in a Bottle initiative involves the provision of MIAB free of charge to the elderly and infirm, our MIAB officer regularly gives explanatory presentations to all interested organisations. We support local clubs and organisations, we have 8 main focus areas, which are, Vision and the prevention of sight loss, Youth, through sports and schools, disaster relief, humanitarian aid, diabetes, Hunger, by supporting foodbanks, the environment and childhood cancer. 

**Promoting the benefit of conservation protection and the improvement of the physical and natural environment.** We carry out ‘litter picking, tree planting and bulb planting initiatives with

## other interested local volunteers and organisations. **Promoting community participation in healthy recreation.** 

We have supported local community centres, libraries and good neighbour organisations who provide educational and other activities for young and old alike. We have provided support for many local schools, football clubs and other welfare and sports facilities.

We confirm that the Trustees take full account of the guidance issued by the Charity Commission related to public benefit when considering their response to welfare requests as well as when organising the Club’s fundraising and service activities.

Grants are awarded in accordance with the club Grant Making Policy in furtherance of its’ charitable objectives. 

Most of the fundraising is within the local area and as such local charities, youth, children’s organisations, and local community facilities are given special consideration.

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** 

## **Christmas and Easter Raffles.** 

Local businesses and our members donate prizes and/or sell tickets to raise funds for our charitable work. Both the Christmas raffle and the Easter raffle were extremely successful. 

## **Message in a Bottle** 

We promote this to the elderly and anyone living alone.  The emergency services know to look for a container in the fridge that has the prescription, personal and contact details of the resident. 

## **Spectacle Collections.** 

We have collection boxes in libraries and GP surgeries around our district.  These old spectacles are sent for cleaning and classifying before being sent to developing countries. 

## **Supporting Schools** . 

Local schools were supported with the supply of learning equipment, sensory equipment, plus financially to put on special events. 

## **Support to individuals.** 

We have supported individuals in need in the following ways: 

- Household Beds, Carpets & White Goods £2395. 

- Winter clothing for individuals £250. 

- Local Martial Arts girl £500. 

- For a local man severely affected by a stroke £1000. 

- Wheelchair batteries for a local individual £500. 

## **Donations to Lions Clubs International (LCIF)** 

Pakistan Appeal £1010. Ukraine Appeal £680. Turkey & Syria Appeal £1000. 

**Serenity Suite at the Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospital.** Provision of a grant to provide for a purpose-built Serenity Suite for use of mothers affected by bereavement following the loss of a child, which includes a bedroom, kitchenette, bath and shower, storeroom, office, desk, computer and TV, plus a nursing station.

## **Section E                    Financial review** 

A reserve is held which the trustees consider sufficient to cover any **Brief statement of the** project or event liabilities should any such project or event failing to **charity’s policy on reserves** generate sufficient income. Regard has always been placed on the Christmas Sleigh event failing to take place possibly due to extreme weather conditions or the possibility of some other reason. This single event generates approximately 60% of the club fundraising, consequently a minimum reserve of £10,000 is held, subject to periodic review. Other opportunities are under continual review resulting in the introduction of events such as Classic Car Shows in order to generate funding. **Details of any funds materially** The charity has no investments other than bank accounts and no **in deficit** accounts are in deficit.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended **30 / 06 / 2023** . 

As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”). 

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out  under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
