|**Summary of the main**<br>**activities undertaken for the**<br>**public benefit in relation to**<br>**these objects (include within**<br>**this section the statutory**<br>**declaration that trustees have**<br>**had regard to the guidance**<br>**issued by the Charity**<br>**Commission on public**<br>**benefit)**|**The advancement of citizenship.**<br>It has to be stated that the Covid 19 pandemic, restrictions, social<br>distancing and lockdown had a significant effect on activities, but our<br>members give their time weekly to plan future fundraising events and<br>made contact via zoom meetings, email and telephone means with<br>people and community groups seeking our help.<br>**Promoting the voluntary sector to the public benefit.**<br>We use social media, magazine publications and membership campaigns<br>to encourage others to get involved and to give for the public good.<br>Indeed, our club membership and involvement of volunteers continues to<br>grow.<br>**Promoting volunteering.**<br>We promote our activities and accomplishments across all local social<br>media platforms, as well as press and magazine releases. We let it be<br>known that volunteering supports community groups and individuals,<br>often in the most difficult of circumstances, but to bring help to those in<br>need of our support and always maintaining total confidentiality.<br>**Relief of poverty and the relief of those in need.**<br>Between 80% - 90% of the funding donated to our club is given back to<br>our local communities by supporting individuals and community groups in<br>need. Support is also given to national charities in the region of between<br>5% - 10%. Our club is keen to support the global cause of hunger relief.<br>**Providing humanitarian aid and disaster relief.**<br>Between a further 5% - 10% is donated to Lions Clubs International to<br>support the Global Causes of Diabetes, Vision, Hunger, Environment and<br>Childhood Cancer to provide support both locally, in the UK and generally<br>throughout the world for those who are affected by social and economic<br>circumstances.<br>**The advancement of health and the saving of lives.**<br>Our club has a well-developed system for the collection of used<br>spectacles for distribution to developing countries. Message in a Bottle<br>initiative involves the provision of MIAB free of charge to the elderly and<br>infirm, our MIAB officer regularly gives explanatory presentations to all<br>interested organisations. We support local clubs and organisations<br>helping with childhood cancer, cancer support, dementia, vision and the<br>prevention of sight loss.<br>**Promoting the benefit of conservation protection and the**<br>**improvement of the physical and natural environment.**<br>In the past we have carried out and we have further future plans to<br>continue with both ‘litter picking’ and ‘tree planting’ initiatives with other<br>interested local volunteers and organisations.|

## **Promoting community participation in healthy recreation.** 

We have in the last year supported local training bases for the Army, Air Force and Royal Navy for trainees embarking on the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme. Additionally, we have supported local community centres and good neighbour organisations who provide educational and other activities for young and old alike. We have provided support for many local schools.

We confirm that the Trustees take full account of the guidance issued by the Charity Commission related to public benefit when considering their response to welfare requests as well as when organising the Club’s fundraising and service activities.

Grants are awarded in accordance with the club Grant Making Policy in furtherance of its’ charitable objectives. 

Most of the fundraising is within the local area and as such local charities, youth, children’s organisations, and local community facilities are given special consideration.

The club provides support to National and International Organisations and Charities. 

Grant applications are treated in accordance with the Data Protection Act. 

Trustees and members review applications through a process of due diligence. 

The club does not have an investment portfolio. 

Volunteer contribution is invaluable. Volunteers are given necessary instruction, training, protection and essential PPE.

Section D                      Achievements and performance 

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** 

**Christmas and Easter Raffles.** Local businesses and our members donate prizes and/or sell tickets to raise funds for our charitable work. The Easter raffle was adversely affected by the Coronavirus pandemic. 

## **Message in a Bottle** 

We promote this to the elderly and anyone living alone.  The emergency services know to look for a container in the fridge that has the prescription, personal and contact details of the resident. 

**Spectacle Collections.** We have collection boxes in libraries and GP surgeries around our district.  These old spectacles are sent for cleaning and classifying before being sent to developing countries. 

**Supporting Schools** . We funded a poster competition in all local primary schools. 

**Support to individuals.** We have supported an individual in great need following a house fire and another individual in financial difficulties relating to funeral expenses. We funded a special pushchair for a child with special needs and a specially adapted bicycle for a child with mobility issues. **Donations to Lions Clubs International (LCIF)** £1,500 to LCIF (£1000 of which was to support the people of India during the Covid crisis), the remainder was to fund the General Disaster Fund. **Supporting National & International Charities.** Royal British Legion £150 Cancer Detection Trust £1350 Wales Air Ambulance £50 Alzheimer’s Society £100 JDRF Diabetes Charity £50 Christian Blind Mission £500 Stroke Association £50

## **Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves** 

A reserve is held which the trustees consider sufficient to cover any project or event liabilities should any such project or event failing to generate sufficient income. Although it did not take place in the last fiscal year, regard has always been placed on the Christmas Sleigh event failing to take place possibly due to extreme weather conditions or the possibility of some other reason. This single event generates approximately 60% of the club fundraising, consequently a reserve of £10,000 is held, subject to periodic review.
