## **Objectives and Activities**

The Group continued to work hard behind the scenes to ensure that the outdoor swimming pool purchased by Swaffham Town Council could be opened to the public. Covid was still impacting activities and meetings.

A three year plan was implemented:

2022 – Information gathering, liaison with TC, link with Future Lidos Group, networking

2023 – TC to restore utilities, refurb pool – soft opening

2024 – Full opening – Olympic Year

In January a committee member attended a one day course for Community Champions mental Health Awareness Training (by Zoom). The link with the Mindful Towns project is part of the Group’s vision for the town.

In February a visit to Billinghay Pool, Lincolnshire provided valuable information and advice on running a small community pool. This visit formed the basis of the Group’s report to TC to show the potential of a pool in Swaffham. The Chair and Trustees of Billinghay Pool continue to be very supportive.

In March the Chair and a committee member reported to a full Swaffham Town Council meeting to explain progress so far and to persuade the Council to commit to funding to re-open the pool.

In April the Group held a stall at the Annual Community Groups Drop In at the Assembly Rooms. Interest continues to be very positive.

AGM was held in May 2022 with new committee members and a new Trustee appointed.

A site visit in June discovered a break in. No serious damage. Tidying up was done and chemicals removed by TC. This emphasised the need to move forward with pool refurb and restore the site to its former use as soon as possible.

A further site meeting with 3 committee members looked at issues around refurb and areas of responsibility between the Group as potential tenants and the TC as potential landlords. The Group continues to believe that the future for the pool as a safe and welcoming facility is within reach.

A committee meeting was held in June to update on progress and discuss proposals.

Further documents were sent to the TC in June including proposed timetable, ticket revenue and estimated expenses. As there are no records from previous running of the former school pool, estimates from other similar pools have been used as guidance.

In September two members of the Committee met with the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Town Clerk. Works to be carried out were discussed and agreed.

The rest of the year was spent making contacts with organisations and professionals within the industry to inform the Group’s plans. The Future Lidos Group has provided support and inspiration. Volunteer projects with BFER (Breckland) - Healing Waters and Tales from the River showed the potential for wellbeing work around swimming. Swaffham Museum supports the Group’s plans for collecting and archiving material about swimming in Swaffham and district.

All work carried out by the Group incurred no expenses.

## **Finance**

A financial statement showed no spending had occurred and that the Group’s reserve stood at £16,526.5. There were Bank Service charges of £5 per month.

TSB have closed in Swaffham and King’s Lynn is now the nearest branch. The new Treasurer has visited the Bank who have been most helpful. It was decided to stay with TSB rather than moving to a company with a branch in Swaffham. Online banking is being investigated.

## **Financial vision**

It is vital that the Group remains viable and that a healthy reserve is maintained to allow for uncertainty of utility costs.

Grant funding will be sought to cover startup costs but the Group is confident that the pool can be self funding once ticket revenue is generated.

The Group will run according to Sport England’s Key factors for Affordable Community Swimming Pools.
