## **Structure and Governance**

The Charity is controlled by its governing Constitution and constitutes a Charitable Incorporated Organisation as defined by the Charities Act 2006. Trustees are appointed by the Constitution.

## **Objectives and Activities**

Education for Gondar was established for the public benefit for the purpose of providing funding to help children and young people with educational and maintenance grants to further their education in the Gondar region of Ethiopia

During the period which followed the establishment of the charity the activity was primarily exploratory and consisted of making contact with potential partner institutions in Gondar. A small amount of fundraising was also undertaken. Fundraising has continued during the current year but due to COVID19 there has not been any opportunity to visit Ethiopia and distribute funds.

## **Public benefit**

When planning the activities of the charity outlined in the activities mentioned above, the trustees have been mindful of the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit. This guidance has helped us to remain focused on the core purposes for which the charity was established. We believe that the range of activities mentioned above are fully compliant with this obligation.

## **Achievements and Performance**

During the period the charity made contact with a number of educational institutions in Gondar and alerted them to our existence and aims. The charity also embarked on a fundraising with a view to distributing funds in compliance with the objects of the charity. Such funds are planned to be distributed during the course of 2021 and on an ongoing basis assuming that the current pandemic permits this.

## **Financial Review Reserves policy**

It is the policy of the Charity that unrestricted funds which have not been designated for a specific use should be maintained at a level equivalent to between three and six months expenditure. The Trustees consider that reserves at this level will ensure that, in the event of a significant drop in funding, they will be able to continue the charity's activities while consideration is given to ways in which additional funds may be raised.

**Details of any funds materially in deficit** No funds are materially in deficit

## **Declaration**

The trustees declare that they have approved the trustee’s report above.
