Training of new incoming officers is provided by Lions Club International District at start of each new term.

March Lions club is a member club of the International association of Lions Clubs through Lions Club International.

The membership of the club has risen slightly over the last few years and is currently standing at 23. However, as many members are into retirement (or approaching it) and traditional methods of recruitment produce limited numbers, and usually within the same age bracket, a new ‘Friends of March Lions’ recruitment programme was started in the previous Lionistic Year and currently has a membership of 16.

March Lions Club continues to have a strong working partnership with March Rotary Club, especially with respect to ‘Santa on Tour’ at Christmas. l b f h l b h i i i

Having had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on Public Benefit.

All trustees have had the opportunity to read the guidance document.

Trustee Meetings are incorporated into the end of Club Business meetings and are also held separately for specific purposes.

The club has carried out the following activities this year in respect of the objects of the club.

The impact of the COVID Pandemic has had a continued impact on the activities of the Club during 2020/21.

The Club was still able to provide Santa on tour over 6 nights with the help of our friends from Rotary. As well as raising money this gives many local people (children especially) a lot of pleasure seeing Santa on his decorated sleigh, We also collected Tinned Food for the Local Foodbank. Only the One static Santa fund-raising events were held at a local supermarket this year.

The Club continued to develop and maintain the large circular garden in the local park although COVID restrictions prevented the use of working parties.

From March 2020 all normal fund-raising activities stopped and as per the governments advice the club kept to the stayat-home theme as needed after this time.

The £200 to each local primary school was handed out as they returned in September. These have ranged from specific journals to gardening equipment and signage for a developing ‘buddy’ system.

Summary of the main have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity activities undertaken for Commission on public benefit) the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees

Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)

You may choose to include further statements, where relevant, about:

The Club’s policy on grant making is based on how the organisation has carried this prior to becoming a CIO. Applications from the public, groups and other charities are heard at normal Club Business Meetings, sometimes passed to the Welfare Committee to generate specific proposals or discussed by all members and Trustees at that meeting. Based on the merits of the application, or Welfare proposal, the Club is invited to propose a sum and vote to accept or reject, counter proposals may also be heard. If the vote achieves a majority approval, then it is then ratified by the Trustees and if approved the ~~grant is made by the Treasurer to the organisation requesting~~ assistance.

Applications for funding from Commercial organisations or for Commercial or for potentially illegal purposes are automatically rejected.

The club does not at present have any investments.

The Club enjoys a significant amount of support from family members and partners as well as from the local Rotary Club. As can be seen from previously in the report it will be seeking further support the its ‘Friends of March Lions’ programme. Not full Lions but people prepared to help out at events and join in social activities who may, in time, become Lions.
