Structure, governance and management
The Charity was constituted as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and is governed by its constitution dated 16th June 2018.
Trustees are appointed or reappointed at Trustee meetings, via a vote after all applications are considered by each Trustee.
The objects of the Charity are for the benefit of the public:
-
a) To relieve the suffering of sick, injured or orphaned hedgehogs that are in need of care and attention by providing and maintaining rescue sites for the intake, care and treatment of the hedgehog with the aim of releasing such hedgehog back into the wild wherever possible, and
-
b) To advance the education of the public on the subject of care, treatment, conservation and habitat of hedgehogs.
Objectives and Activities:
The Charity has achieved its objectives through the dedication and commitment of our volunteers who work diligently for the welfare of the hedgehogs that come within the Charity’s care. The Charity has continued to receive many generous and varied donations from our supporters and followers along with local businesses who have recognised our work. Many fundraising efforts have been successfully carried out and the results are reflected in the accounts, which show a year end balance of £15,596.33
Also the Charity used some of this year's money to finance the purchase of 6 Incubators and electric equipment, HHH Merchandise Stock, microchip equipment.
Achievements and performance
The period has seen a continued steady progression and build up of contacts and volunteers who are dedicated to the aims of the Charity and who devote endless hours to the preservation of the hedgehogs in their care.
We have attended many fundraising events holding a tombola and educational material, which also gives us the opportunity to chat with the public about how they can help hedgehogs. We held our own Spring and Christmas fairs, our Merchandise, bottle game, tombola, table top and cake stall are always popular. Many of our volunteers/ supporters got creative in making items to sell on behalf of the Charity.
We continue to regularly use social media to keep the public aware of the plight of the hedgehogs by educating them on diets, habitat, nesting sites, hedgehog highways and garden dangers.
The Charity received 457 hedgehogs for the period, which is a slight decrease on previous years which was seen across the nation by all rescue centres, this allowed us to use (HOTS) Hands on Technicians previously trained to allow assessors to continue with intakes.
The Trustees are extremely proud of the dedication and loyalty of all their volunteers. The Charity has been busy giving educational talks on the life and habitat of hedgehogs to schools, nurseries, WI, Community groups, scouts and brownies etc.. This is an efficient way to further public awareness and encourage children to become involved in caring about wildlife. The assessors have continued to train new foster carers, allowing space to become available at the hospital sites for new admissions..
Financial Review
The Charity has continued to establish itself in this period and has added to its reserves, giving a balance of £15,596.33 to carry forward. The trustees are conscious that as the Charity grows more funds are needed to finance future operations.
The Trustees declare that they have approved the Trustee’s report above.
