Structure, governance and management

The Charity was constituted as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and is governed by its constitution dated 16th June 2018.

Trustees are appointed or reappointed at Trustee meetings, via a vote after all applications are considered by each Trustee.

The objects of the Charity are for the benefit of the public:

Objectives and Activities:

The Charity has achieved its objectives through the dedication and commitment of our volunteers who work diligently for the welfare of the hedgehogs that come within the Charity’s care. The Charity has continued to receive many generous and varied donations from our supporters and followers along with local businesses who have recognised our work. Many fundraising efforts have been successfully carried out and the results are reflected in the accounts, which show a year end balance of £15,341.30.

Also the Charity used some of this years money to finance the purchase of 2 hogspitals, an ultra sound machine and 2 microscopes.

Achievements and performance

The period has seen a continued steady progression and build up of contacts and volunteers who are dedicated to the aims of the Charity and who devote endless hours to the preservation of the hedgehogs in their care.

We have attended many fundraising events holding a tombola, which also gives us the opportunity to chat with the public about how they can help hedgehogs. We held our own Christmas fair and invited other stall holders to attend, our bottle game and cake stall are always popular. Many of our volunteers/ supporters got creative in making items to sell on behalf of the Charity.

We continue to regularly use social media to keep the public aware of the plight of the hedgehogs by educating them on diets, habitat, nesting sites, hedgehog highways and garden dangers.

The Charity received 159 hedgehogs for the period, which is a decrease on the last year, but this is partly due to 3 new rescues opening in the local area. This has meant we can refer to each other if it is in the best interest of the hedgehog and the space is available i.e. the closest rescue, less travel time and therefore the hedgehog receives care and treatment more quickly.

The Trustees are extremely proud of the dedication and loyalty of all their volunteers. The Charity has been busy giving educational talks on the life and habitat of hedgehogs to schools, nurseries, WI, scouts and brownies etc.. This is an efficient way to further public awareness and encourage children to become involved in caring about wildlife. The assessors have continued to train new foster carers, allowing space to become available at the hospital sites for new admissions.

The Charity are happy to welcome Cath Novis as a trustee.

Financial Review

The Charity has continued to establish itself in this period and has added to its reserves, giving a balance of £15341.30 to carry forward. The trustees are conscious that as the Charity grows more funds are needed to finance future operations.

The Trustees declare that they have approved the Trustee’s report above.
