The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out in note 1 to the financial statements and comply with the charity's constitution for charitable incorporated organisations, the Charities Act 2011 and "Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)" (effective 1 January 2019).

## **Objectives and activities**

The prevention of cruelty towards and alleviation of animal suffering by promoting humane behaviour towards animals and higher animal welfare standards through the provision of education, advice and support to individuals and communities for the appropriate treatment and care of working and other kept animals.

The trustees have paid due regard to guidance issued by the Charity Commission in deciding what activities the charity should undertake.

## **Achievements and performance**

1. Expanding Community Awareness and Support for Treat Me Kind: In 2023 we successfully distributed new collection boxes to local corporate companies to help us raise awareness and funds within the community. We also received a donation through a funeral online platform, where the family asked friends and family to not give flowers but a donation to their chosen charity, TMK. Online legacy giving is very much part of our long-term strategy for the charity.

2. Advertisement Strategy: for our legacy work we strategically invested in paid advertisements, including a feature in the Law Gazette 2023 published book and online listing, aiming to reach a new target audience through this publication which reached out to UK solicitors to promote our mission and activities.

3. Expansion of Shoebox Appeal: Treat Me Kind's signature shoebox appeal demonstrated significant growth and impact by evolving into collaborations with local food banks. This initiative expanded to provide pet food donations to vulnerable families and individuals with pets across Sussex, reflecting the organisations commitment to addressing community needs and supporting pet owners in challenging circumstances, especially during the living crisis. We have now successfully partnered up with three local food banks in West Sussex to provide them with pet food. We will continue to develop our local partnerships and expand our reach.

4. Funding Acquisition: TMK are proactively applying to secure funding for our food bank initiative. This appeal has been progressively successful in achieving our charitable activities effectively.

5. International Collaboration: Treat Me Kind forged a meaningful collaboration with Nine Lives animal rescue in Greece, leveraging local partnerships to support joint fundraising appeals. This initiative not only contributes to the welfare of animals but also fosters valuable relationships with overseas charities, aligning with the organisation’s global impact aspirations.

6. Corporate Engagement and Fundraising Innovation: Treat Me Kind demonstrated innovation in fundraising through strategic partnerships with local companies, encouraging contributions through online passive incomes. Additionally, the registration with the Work for Good platform highlights the organisation’s proactive approach to engaging with small and medium-sized businesses in supporting its cause.

7. Charitable Account Establishment: The establishment of a new charity account with JustGiving reflects Treat Me Kind's commitment to leveraging digital platforms for fundraising and community engagement, providing supporters with convenient avenues to contribute to its initiatives.

In summary, Treat Me Kind's achievements and performance highlight its dedication to making a positive impact on animal welfare and community support. The organisation's strategic initiatives, collaborative efforts, and innovative approaches to fundraising underscore its effectiveness and commitment to its mission

## **TRUSTEES' REPORT (CONTINUED)** _**FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 NOVEMBER 2023**_

The trustees are gearing up to revisit the development of a new reserves policy as the charity's capital increases. This forthcoming policy will focus on the organisations approach to reserves and outline appropriate guidelines for their management. This proactive step reflects the trustees' commitment to regularly reassessing financial strategies and ensuring they align with the evolving needs and goals of the charity.

## **Plans for future periods**

Looking ahead for the charity and considering we do receive support from the public through local community activities eg Tombola’s, online in-memory donations, we want to keep developing and building our activities and achievements within the community, reach out to new audiences where we can and make an impact through our main areas of work. These include;

1. Strengthening Collaborations: The organisation plans to deepen existing collaborations with local food banks and international animal rescue organisations. By expanding partnerships and fostering meaningful relationships, Treat Me Kind aims to amplify its outreach efforts and extend support to a broader demographic of vulnerable communities and animals.

2. Diversifying Fundraising Strategies: Recognizing the importance of sustainable funding, Treat Me Kind intends to explore innovative fundraising avenues while continuing to leverage traditional approaches. This includes further engagement with local businesses for collaborative fundraising initiatives and maximizing opportunities presented by digital platforms like Work for Good and JustGiving and online legacy initiative type platforms too, as well as programs.

3. Enhancing Community Engagement: Treat Me Kind is committed to fostering a stronger sense of community engagement and participation. This involves actively involving supporters in its initiatives, promoting awareness through local events, and encouraging involvement through volunteerism and advocacy efforts. We will build our community presence by increasing the distribution of collection boxes to local businesses. Helping us to raise awareness across the local regions as well as start communications.

4. Streamlining Operational Efficiency: The organisation aims to optimise operational processes and resource utilisation to ensure maximum efficiency and impact. This includes ongoing evaluation of financial management practices, implementation of technological solutions for streamlined operations, and regular monitoring and evaluation of program outcomes.

5. Expanding Outreach Initiatives: Treat Me Kind plans to expand its outreach initiatives to reach underserved communities and address emerging needs effectively. This involves exploring opportunities for geographical expansion, diversifying service offerings, and tailoring programs to meet the unique requirements of different target groups.

In summary, Treat Me Kind is poised to embark on a journey of continued growth and impact, guided by its commitment to promoting animal welfare and supporting vulnerable communities. Through strategic planning and concerted efforts, the organisation endeavors to build a brighter future for both animals and humans alike.

This departure has involved following the Statement of Recommended Practice for charities applying FRS 102 rather than the version of the Statement of Recommended Practice which is referred to in the Regulations but which has since been withdrawn.
