| Summary of the main activities in relation to those purposes for the public benefit, in particular, the activities, projects or services identified in the accounts. |
Para 1.17 and 1.19 |
For the second year running activities were curtailed by Covid-19 restrictions which affected many water sports venues and organisations. The Covid-19 restrictions were lifted in January. Our base at Edgbaston Reservoir was then closed to all water sports from January to April as a consequence of total ban imposed by Birmingham City Council in response to the national Avian Influenza outbreak. This was the only venue in England where a rowing club and its tenants were so affected. Although there were some bird deaths at the site there were no confirmed cases of Avian Influenza during the outbreak. Much time and effort was expended to persuade the Council and the UKHSA to act and advise proportionately and consistently with the level of risk, the published scientific evidence and the UKHSA’s own published guidance. This suspension of activity on the water and the uncertainty over when it would be lifted severely restricted planning and delivery of our activities. Once the Avian Influenza restrictions were lifted, allow activities to re-start, B-Row provided rowing |
| sessions for young people at Edgbaston Reservoir during the school holidays. Young people who have been introduced to water sports in previous years and had continued to participate have helped with the delivery of some of these sessions and have started to develop coaching skills; technical, communication, planning and leadership. The activities delivered are generally subsidised by grant aid from third parties and the partner organisations helping to facilitate group participation. |
