## **Hearts and Homes**
## **Chairperson's report for 2023**
During the year Hearts and Homes continued to provide advice and support to the Syrian refugee family who had been brought to Britain under the Community Sponsorship Programme in March 2021. The family now had a third child, a daughter and were seeking three-bedroomed accommodation in Stratford upon Avon. Advice and financial support was also provided to a Syrian lady with three children who had moved into the area
The weekly English lessons, which began in August 2022 for recently arrived Ukrainian refugees under the Homes for Ukraine programme, continued until July 2023, with six
volunteer teachers willingly provided their time. Hearts and Homes received a grant from Warwickshire County Council towards the costs of the sessions. During the course of the year twenty-two Ukrainian refugees, including children, attended the free sessions in conversational English.
As the six months period required for hosts to provide accommodation expired the charity assisted Ukrainian families in obtaining furniture and effects and in moving into
independent accommodation. Through fundraising events during the year families were also provided with a resettlement grant.
Hearts and homes will continue to support refugees in South Warwickshire and Wychavon in 2024
