Subject: Minutes Annual meeting DFU 2025

Present; Margaret Davies and Lisa Seferi

Previous minutes acknowledged.

Denise Foundation currently has 79 children sponsored. This past year has brought some changes with some of our older children choosing to leave education and find employment and one getting married. Unfortunately, this is not uncommon in Uganda. Fred visited the families, attempted to locate the children and encourage them to return to education. The school staff and village elders are aware of this situation. This was not deemed a safeguarding matter.

On a more positive note, our older children in further education are doing very well in their exams.

The coffee plantation is also doing very well. Further investment of £600 for irrigation will hopefully ensure a good harvest as there has been little rain. The trustees agreed it was provident to ensure the crop.

Unfortunately, our precious piglets died due to an outbreak of swine flu. They were seen by a local veterinarian and euthanised according to Ugandan protocol.

The trustees acknowledged fundraising has been particularly challenging over the past couple of years. Our last Christmas appeal was down from previous years. The trustees agreed this is most likely due to the current economic climate and the rising costs of living in the UK. Fundraising has also been impacted by personal problems with ill health and caring for elderly parents for Lisa and Margaret.

The trustees are delighted to announce that Jude, a highly respected local teacher and mentor for Fred, has agreed to assist in supporting him with some decision making in Uganda. Jude will be a great asset and advocate for our children and we value his service and time greatly. All of our sponsored children are attending school, receive school uniforms and food. The trustees are happy with the current situation.

The trustees are grateful for recent donations received from the funeral of Lisa’s mum Pauline and her dear friend, Jilly Lawson mum’s funeral, in lieu of flowers. Pure Bliss salon have also donated money raised from raffles.

Jude and Fred have recently visited the children in their homes to establish any needs. Sponsors are made aware that all the money they send goes to the children. Some sponsorship has been lost, again due to the current economic climate and/or sponsor personal commitments. Despite this, the trustees are proud that the children who are part of Denise Foundation continue to thrive and receive an education for a brighter future. We look forward to another successful year.
