The trustees have p3id due regard lo guidance issued by the Chafity Commission in deciding what aeliwlies the
charity should undertake.
Achievemènts and perfomiance
Durin9 the year the charity recéived cash donations of £516. inclusive of Gift Aid. and gifts of Investments of
£84,074. These donations together with investment income generated of £44,274 resulted ill total incoming
resources of £128,264.
During the year the charlly incurred cha¥itable expènditure of £245.603 in accordance wrth the purposes outlined
above.

all of which I know have proivided great outcomes lor the recipients, often changing lives and making lives
kinder.

to other chairties where money is put to good use.
We are Still looking at larger opportunities and we class this as financial help of over £40k. again where real
impact and different, better outcotnes are achievable.
The comin9 year saw the sale ol our MBttioli Woods shares, wilh MattitslT Woods plc being taken private by
private equity house Pollen Strèét Capital. This has given the charity cash liouidily to look al more and larger
opportunities.

crèated, and the Tie¢ of Life is now Ènabling families, individu81s and companies lo remember their loved
ones. We are hoping the Tree of Life lolal donations lo LOTOS will reach £lm.

The financial statetllents have been prepared in accordaneé with the charity's governin9 document, the
Charities Act 2011 and "Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practice
applicable to charities PTeparing theiT accounts in accordance with the Financial Reportin9 Standard
applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland {FRS 1021 (effective 1 January 20191 The charity Is a Publi¢
Bènèfit Entity as defined by FRS 102.
The financial statements have departed from the Charities (Accounts and Repc>rtsl Regulations 2008 orsly lo
the extent required to provide 8 true and fair view. Thi5 departure has involved following the Statement of
Recommer)ded Piactice for charitie5 applying FRS 102 rather than the version of the Statement of
Re¢ommended Practicè which is referred lo in the Regulations bul which has since been withdrawn.
The financial statements are prepared in slerfing. which is the functional cvrrency of the charity. Monetary
amounts in these financial statements are rounded lo tho rioarest £.
The financial statements have bÈÈn prèpared under the historical eost corsvention. The pr¢ncipal accounting
policies adopted are set out below,
1.2 Going concern
At the time of approving the financial statements, the Iruslees have a reasonable expectation that th& ¢harity
has adequate resources ttr continue in operational existence for thè forèseeable future. Thus the trustees
continue to adopt the going concern basis ol accounting in preparing thè financial statements.
1.3 CharÉtable funds
Unrestrictèd funds are available foi use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of their charitable
objectives.
1.4 Incoming resources
Income is recognised when the charity is legally entitled to it after any perfc>rmance conditions have bèèn mèt,
the amounts can be me8sured reliably, and il is probable that income wtll be ieceived.
Cash donations are rècognised on receipt. Other donations are recognised once the charity has beèn notifièd
of the donation. unless pèrformance conditions require deferral of the amount. Income lax recoveiablè in
relation to donation5 received under Gift Aid or deéds of covenant is reGognised at the time of the donati¢in.
Donations ol assets are reco9nised at lair value.

Financial instruments are recognised in the ch81ity'8 balance shèet when the charity becomes party lo the
contractual provi5i0n$ of the instrument.
Financial assets and liabilities are tsffset, with the net amoun15 presented in Ihp financial slatements, when
Ihore is a legally enforceable iighl to set off the recognised amoun15 and there is an intention to Settle on a nel
basis or lo realise the asset and settle thè liability simuttaneously.

In the application of the charity's accounting poli¢les, the Iruslees are required lo makè judgèments. eslimales
and assumptions about the carrying arnounl of assets and liabilities that are not re8dily apparent from othèr
sources. The èstimates and associated assumptions are based on historical experience 8nd other factors that
are considered lo be relevant. Actual results may differ from thesè estimates.
The eslimales and undeilying assumptions are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Revisions lo a¢¢ounting
eslimales are recognised in the period in which the estsmale 15 revised where the revision aftects tsnly that
