## **Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document** 

The relief of poverty or financial hardship in particular but not exclusively by providing grants via redeemable vouchers for everyday clothing to individuals and families in financial need. The redeemable vouchers are able to be redeemed exclusively at participating charity shops throughout the United Kingdom of Great Britain. 

Designed to bridge the gap between charity shops and people that cannot afford to clothe themselves and their families by providing access to clothing stock held at charity shops. _Clothing Collective_ provides a monetary value voucher redeemable in partner charity stores, enabling people in need to choose their own clothes with dignity without having to rely on hand-outs. 

The vouchers are offered to people in crisis redeemable at partner charity shops. When they are spent, a secondary benefit occurs by raising funding for the shops own charitable cause, with _Clothing Collective_ returning the cash value of the voucher back to them. 

## **How does it work?**

## **Why is it needed?** 

There are daily studies on the increase of rough sleeping, homelessness and households in poverty, with recent examples showing an increase of nearly a third in rough sleepers over the past year, and pockets in large cities with two-thirds of children living in poverty-hit families. Reports show that more than one in five of the UK population (22%) is in poverty, and whilst food banks have appeared across the UK to provide support, there are less options for finding clothing. 

The charity trustees declare that any debts and other liabilities of the CIO have been settled or otherwise provided for in full in accordance with its constitution.

Clothing Collective partners with third party charities such as Food banks and shelters, etc. who work with venerable people where they are able to identify the needs of those using their services by way of assessing the requirements in having access to clothes.  By partnering with these third-party charities, they are able to distribute Clothing Collective vouchers on our behalf in a structured and professional environment which is vital to our operations, as Clothing Collective doesn’t distribute vouchers directly to individuals. 

This year we have again managed to attract volunteers to join the charity who have been willing and able to make contributions to the development of the charity.

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** 

This past year has brought challenges, notably the ongoing time involved attracting and managing new volunteers which cannot be underestimated the time this takes up. 

It goes without saying the unfortunate major knock-on effects and ramifications that have been associated with the consequences of Covid-19 which has had a continuing significant effect on the charity. 

Due to Covid, all planned events where subsequently cancelled, resulting in all the fundraising opportunities being wiped out. Apart from the obvious concern and disappointment this caused, the income we had anticipated being taken away was an enormous setback which was very demoralising not being able to reap the rewards for all the efforts that had been planned. 

The results of this, effectively put the operations of the charity on hold, due to all the charity shops being closed, preventing the very essence of what we are set up to do not being allowed to happen.  This prevented our beneficiaries having access to the shops where they are able to redeem the vouchers. 

We launched the rebrand and design of the new charity name and website which has been well received. 

We have continued to receive enquiries from different organisations requesting support in providing them with our vouchers which has been encouraging in the sense our name and reputation has grown.  We have had to be very selective when considering these requests to support such causes due to our own limited funding. 

We are pleased to report one of our Trustees who was due to stand down at the end of her two year term has agreed to continue as a Trustee.  In addition to this we have also recruited a new Trustee from our group of volunteers who will join the Board as of the 1[st] July 2021.

With charity shops being closed due to Covid, this has created a situation where although we have funds available to finance the provision of our vouchers, we have not received as many redeemed vouchers back from the charity shops requiring us to repay them.  This is not a major issue in itself, other than where we have generated revenues to finance our vouchers, we are unable to demonstrate the expenditure to benefit those people we are set up to support.

Whilst our activities have seriously been hampered this year, it remains a core objective for the year ahead to identify and recruit additional Trustees to the board allowing us to develop as a charity with the experience new Trustees would bring with them.
