The distt*very presented an opportunlty to preserve thls and use It to make a unlque 13.2 metre long
table and glft It to the nation. At1dltlonalty, rt would also serve to hlghllght the Importance of farmers
preservlng the dwlndllng supplles of Ihls r•r¢st of natlve hardwoods and to cast 119ht for fvture
generatlons on the anclent hlgh ft•rests of Fenland 8rltaln of 3.300 BC.
The Fenland Black Oak Projed would also servt •$ 4 trnlnlng èr*d ￿L￿0very expede￿e for the next
generatlon ol master traft men and women.
Accordlngly the th•rlty was I￿nded to put th* Into effett and to enable a tearn of dedlcated. skllled
¢raft5rnen to turn thls unlque plece of Black Oak Into a table for the natlon.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE

Following the estsbllshment of the Charttable trust In June 2018 a team of trustees wlth wlde and varled
skllls was recrulted. These trustees Included a master cabinet maker, a farmer, a collegé prfndpal,
lowyer, an accountant, an admlnlstrntor Jnd a film maker. Addltlonally, the chadty ho5 attrncted
conslderable goodwlll and been helped by partldpation and 5ervlces from many companles and
IndI￿d￿al$ around the world.
As reported prevlously the orfiglnal oak log was ralsed from the gmund In 2012 the table top
Fabricated, whlch was completed In August 2019.
Tht last year has been cornpletlfig the de51gn of an under*truciure that Twould be fittlng for th1$ unlque
table top. This design has now been completed In patinated bronze uslng fully resolved and calculated
structural drawlngs by englneer5 spedallzlng In suth struciures and has been fijlly costed. The trustees
have now ralsed the funds to enable the under-sinjrture to be fabrit4ted and the table completed. as
well as funds to facilltate a comprehertsive historlcal and edueabonal display to accompany the table. The
fabrication of the understructure 15 now under way and ts expected to be completed in the fiwst quarter of
2022.
In addition to the proposed dlsplay of the table at Ely Cathedral. the Trust Is In a(tlve dialogue wlth other
destinatlons to house the table.

In Ihe period under revlew the chadty hos raised £81,810 In donatlons and has recelved the beneflt of
servltrs (such as storage and fabricaty.on works) amounting to a value of £15,468. These funds have
been used In the design and prototype of the ￿nde￿trUCtt1re and stornge of the table top, leavlng a
balance of £78,974 when added to the reseryes brou9ht forward. At the pe￿0d ¢nd the cash balance of
£80,810 was suffident to cover the chartty's Ilats"lities.
The trvstees are confldent that sufflclent funds have been rnlsed to enable the understructure to be bullt
wlthln the next twelve months, and the table completed.

The purpose ol the charlty Is to ralse sijffident funds to bulld the table, whlch once bullt wlll be glfted to
the natlon. Costs are only Incurred when the fvnds have been raised, so the trustees do not con51der It
necessary to malntaln reserves. Accordingty, the level of reserves at the end tyf the pertod Is an amount
of £78,974 whlch has alreody been earmarked ft*r expendlture.
