## **Annual Report for 2021/2022** This is the twelfth Annual Report of Bolton Neuro Voices. It records just a half year of fairly normal activities as we were only able to restart face-to-face activities in September 2021 Our membership is made up of five local neuro groups; Bolton West Stroke Support Group, Bury/Bolton ME/CFS Support Group, Manchester and District MND Association, Bolton and District MS Society and Parkinson’s UK Bolton – plus about 40 individual members. As no membership subscriptions were collected for 2020/21, exact numbers will be confirmed when renewals are requested in April 2022. **Aims and Objectives** Bolton Neuro Voices was set up to improve the quality of neurological health and care services in Bolton, to create a forum in which local groups could work together and to extend membership to individuals and carers who have no local support group. In particular, we wanted to facilitate improvements in quality of life, ensure access to information and provide continued monitoring of local services. Our services are open to everyone with a neurological condition who can participate safely. They therefore meet the public service obligation. ## **Activities in 2021- 2022** In the first half of the year while Covid restrictions continued, we kept in touch with our members via emails, letters, phone calls and our Facebook page and so tried to ensure that they had access to all available sources of information, help and support. In July we were able to arrange _**our AGM along with a summer lunch**_ (protected by spaced seating and Covid tests) which was greatly enjoyed. Our **Annual Return to the Charity Commission** was then submitted and acknowledged. After much careful planning and a new risk assessment, _**our Hydrotherapy Programme**_ was able to restart with limited numbers in September 2021. The first 11 sessions were wonderfully supported by Susan Pattison, our neuro physiotherapist, and her colleague, Leena Najia, .This was necessary because all participants had lost mobility and confidence during the long lockdown and needed to be reviewed. This extra professional support was made possible by funds provided by our generous donors (see Finance Report for details). Sessions continued in January and February with normal levels of physio support but with very valuable input from physio students at Bolton University. In March 2022 we were able to hold our first _**Hydrotherapy Course for New Users**_ since November 2019. At 11 participants, numbers were smaller than usual and the End-of-Course questionnaire feedback is currently being studied. The Continuation programme restarts on 27 April. Staffing problems at Bolton Arena delayed our _**Arena Exercise Programme**_ until February 2022 but the first six sessions have now taken place and been enjoyed by participants It will continue again after Easter. In December, we were delighted to be able to hold an almost normal (just LFT tests) Christmas Lunch at Ridgmont House which was hugely enjoyed by members, relatives, volunteers and donors. The attached **Finance Report** reflects a year of two halves but underlines our secure financial position, which trustees have reviewed for risk and sustainability. **The Committee (Trustees)** had two meetings (of which one was virtual) in 2021/22 while also keeping in touch by telephone and email. An important task was the review and update of all BNV policies. Trustees were Marie Oxtoby (Chair), Graham Brushett (Vice Chair), Moyra Lewis (Secretary), Annette Stuart (Treasurer), Marie Boardman, Ian Flint, Neil Germaine, Christine Lee and Moyra McDermott. Christine Lee resigned in May 2021 and Moyra Lewis retired from her role as secretary, but not from her membership of the committee, in March 2021. As Chair, I would like to thank most sincerely all members of the Committee, our physiotherapist, Susan Pattison and her colleagues, Anna Ziemer of Bolton University and all our members, carers and donors for their continued and much valued support for Bolton Neuro Voices.
