Report and Financial Statements Year Ending 31st July 2021

Charity No. 1178767 Company No. 08955606

Partington Theatre Club Limited

Report of the Trustees for the year ending 31st July 2021

The Trustees present their annual report together with the consolidated financial statements of the charity for the year ending 31st July 2021.

CHAIR’S REPORT

We could not have imagined that the theatre would remain closed for the entire season. However, much work was carried out to the facilities with plans for new lighting in the auditorium and a major refurbishment of the dressing room.

The new clubroom and bar has been a tremendous success and under the energetic management of our new Bar Manager, Ryan Meehan, bookings are up and a number of visiting performers appearing bringing in much needed revenue whilst the theatre remained closed for productions. The success of the events has led to with plans for more of the same in 2021-22. Not only are they an essential source of income, they have also raised the profile of the theatre and encouraged a number of people to become members and hopefully play a greater part in the running of the company in the months and years to come. Without the influx of new members taking an interest in all aspects of running the theatre then the future could be very uncertain.

Government grants and low-interest loans have been essential in maintaining the building and keeping the charity on a sound financial footing. Future plans include refurbishing the downstairs toilet area and a new boiler to replace the rather ancient one currently installed.

Finally, I would like to thank my fellow Trustees, as well as the Officers of the limited company and the small band of dedicated volunteers for all their efforts to ensure that the next 12 months sees the Partington Theatre not only survive but flourish in a post-Covid world.

OUR PURPOSES and ACTIVITIES

The objects of the charity are specifically restricted to the following: -

ARTISTIC VALUES

We are aware that artistic tastes are not the same for everyone and that when addressing some of the more challenging themes the productions might give rise to offence. We take the views of our audiences very seriously and without compromising the integrity of the programme we seek to respect the diverse social, cultural and religious lifestyles of our community and audience.

The strategies employed to achieve the charity’s aims and objectives are to:

2020/2021 – SEASON OF THEATRICAL EVENTS

This year like last year has yet again proved a challenging one (as it has for all businesses and theatres around the country) due to the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic.

We were proactive in planning a programme of plays for this season and built-in various options because we had no idea when theatres would be able to open and unless the lockdown restrictions changed the theatre would remain closed. As it transpired, we were not able to put on any productions this season and therefore had no revenue coming into the Charity.

Consequently, we have suffered financially, with no income from productions or community lettings. We did hold an online Murder Mystery and some Quizzes which did bring in some donations to our theatre renovation fund.

YOUTH THEATRE

When the lockdown restrictions eased classes of reduced numbers were able to be held when the Youth Theatre resumed in September 2020. To accommodate all the youth theatre members, Penny Smith (our Youth Theatre Director) restructured her timetable and put on more classes to enable all the members to attend a class. The sessions followed strict Covid Safety Rules and ensured the children kept a socially acceptable distance during each activity. However, there followed an upsurge in Covid cases and children were having to isolate and therefore it was decided to stop running live classes and resume the Zoom sessions.

Despite the restrictions imposed by this method of working, the zoom classes enabled the youth theatre members to further develop their skills and to maintain communication and social interaction as a group.

VISITING THEATRE COMPANIES

This year we have had no visiting theatre company performances due to the lockdown.

COMMUNITY USE OF THE FACILITIES

This year the regular community use of the clubroom ceased due to the enforced closure of the building following the Covid 19 Pandemic. We have kept in regular contact with our lessees and are confident that once lockdown ends and the building can reopen safely, they will return to resume their activities.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

This commentary supplements the enclosed audited accounts, which were prepared for the annual return to Companies House for the year ending 31[st] July, 2021

Covid Restrictions from Nov 5[th] 2020 to April 12[th] 2021 resulted in 5 month’s loss of trading. There were no productions during this period. Youth Drama sessions continued online.

Grants from High Peak MBC and Derbyshire CC totalling £21,071 and Government Furlough Grants of £12,452 were the major sources of income during a difficult trading year. Donations totalled £5834.

The first instalment on our insurance claim for loss of trading resulted in a 1[st] payment on account of £2,500 from Hiscox Insurance.

A major roof leak resulted in repairs and replacements of £10,578 which was covered by an insurance payment.

Current Assets at year-end were £27,146.

The amount outstanding for repayment on the Government Bounce Back Loan was £17,887.

Total income received was £98,139.

Total expenditure was £93,974 resulting in a surplus of £4,164.

FUTURE PLANS

Despite the uncertainty of the future, we are optimistic in our plans. Our main objective is to be able to fulfil our objects. We have a programme of plays planned for next season and we hope that our resident Youth Theatre and local community groups will be able to renew their classes in our recently renovated clubroom.

Regarding major building and maintenance projects these will be put on hold until we start to achieve a regular income.
