## Chordis Caerllion: Annual Report to the Charity Commission, June 2025 ## Overview Chordis Caerllion continued its mission to provide high-quality musical experiences for young people in the past year. We were delighted to welcome new members, bringing our total to 35 talented young musicians. This year was marked by exciting collaborations, community engagement, and significant opportunities for our members to develop their skills. ## Key Activities and Achievements ## Financial Support and Repertoire Expansion We were thrilled to receive a £1,250 Lottery grant, which was instrumental in supporting our collaborative projects. This funding provided a great opportunity for Chordis Caerllion to expand our repertoire, allowing our young musicians to explore new musical genres and work alongside voice, wind, and brass ensembles. ## New Rehearsal Venue Due to the need for a more affordable option, we transitioned our rehearsal space from Ponthir Village Hall. We are pleased to announce that Langstone School became our new home for 2025, providing a stable and suitable environment for our monthly rehearsals. ## Community Engagement and National Recognition Chordis Caerllion was proud to host the Music for Youth (MFY) event for the community and the South Wales region. This was a hugely successful day, with groups travelling from all over Wales to perform for music mentors. Our orchestra's dedication and talent were once again recognized as we were invited to perform in Birmingham at the National Festival, a testament to the hard work and commitment of our young musicians. Concerts and Collaborations Our performance schedule was rich and varied: * We held a Christmas concert in Caerleon, featuring inspiring collaborations with other musical groups. * At the end of January, it was a privilege for Chordis Caerllion to be part of the important Holocaust Memorial Concert. * The year culminated in our Summer Concert, which provided even more performance opportunities through collaboration with additional groups, including local school choirs. This experience was brilliant for our young people, allowing them to adapt and develop their skills as musicians by learning to play with other ensembles. ## Impact on Young People The past year has provided invaluable experiences for the young members of Chordis Caerllion. Through diverse performance opportunities, collaborations, and the expansion of our repertoire, our musicians have significantly developed their technical abilities, adaptability, and collaborative skills. The MFY event and the invitation to the National Festival further boosted their confidence and provided exposure to a wider musical community. ## Thanks As always, our sincerest thanks go to Mr Peter James, musical director, and his staff for their patience, expertise and vision in supporting our young people in their music making. Additionally, our friends and buddies of Chordis Caerllion, enable our monthly rehearsals to run smoothly and efficiently – volunteers who give up their time to support the rehearsals and concerts. We thank also Jude Russell, Headteacher of Langstone Primary School in providing our temporary home. And to our young musicians and their carers for committing to music making and turning up to rehearsals and concerts – your commitment and enthusiasm make this all worthwhile.
