The purpose of Les Petits Bilingues de Newham is the advancement of education for the public benefit by providing French speaking and non-French speaking children from the ages of 3 to 16+ living in East London with lessons in French and other activities outside mainstream education to help:
- Those with an existing connection with French language, culture and heritage maintain this connection in the UK and with their extended families in their countries of origin.
Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document
-
Bi-national families who are either settled permanently or temporarily in East London and whose children do not attend French educational establishments meet their needs and values through the provision of French cultural support with a focus on improving the children's language skills, confidence and self-esteem, which in turn will have a further positive impact on their literacy and speaking skills.
-
Parents and children of Newham eager to develop such skills easily access such language learning facilities without having to travel long distance.
-
Achieve these purposes using non-traditional and playful teaching methods aiming at creating an atmosphere of fun, engaging students’ creativity in their learning and practice of French language

| Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit) |
This was one of our best achieved academic year since we operated as a French complimentary School and after the pandemic of COVID 19. All our bilingual projects related to French language learning took place as planned through various language activities and games very well structured thanks to qualified teachers both from France and the UK who dedicated their times voluntarily to gain CPD throughout the year to enable children benefit the best of their knowledge. We maintained great standards to facilitate exceptional French bilingual projects to happen for the academic year 2022/2023. Part of various animations was the following extremely successful small projects held throughout the academic year: French national days celebration with cultural activities were held fromJanuary 2022 to April 2023: Our children gained in French cultural awareness through various adventurous games and activities related to the main national French days and/or celebrations such as Halloween, Christmas day, New Year’s Eve, “La galette des rois” or Pancake Day “La Chandeleur”, Chinese New Year, Easter, Eid day, Saint Patricks Day, Mothers/Father’s Day and many more. French cooking activity: Our children not only enjoyed learning the vocabulary of the recipes of famous French “Galette des Rois” and “crêpes” as well as were able to enjoy their final cooking. Indeed our” Cooking in French” class became extremely popular as French Crêpes and Galettes des Rois were deliciously cooked and tasted from our students in December 2022 and February 2023 respectively. Well honoured humanitarian action of Les Petits Bilingues de Newham: Parents from our school kindly contributed to dedicate their time and efforts for the cause of our local school with their fund-raising project that was held for the earthquake that happened in Turkey in February 2023. Part of their action was to sell French biscuits and raise money that we entirely gave to the local school to help the affected people in need in Turkey. World book day in French was celebrated in Mars 2023: Our students were offered to choose and then exchange on a French book of their choice from our Little French Library. Local French Bilingual Community groups of Newham created throughout our school enabled: - Positive and valuable exchange with the local community Mums through the “Mummies dinner group” for a monthly meet up to discuss about their children bilingual education and French language learning opportunities, development, progress to benefit their children now and in the long run (GSCE, A LEVELS). - Interesting and rapid marketing tool by promoting French language learning and cultural heritage awareness of Les Petits Bilingues de Newham inside the local communityand beyond. |

Towards the end of the academic year for the final term we also projected to organise some bilingual francophone outdoor and indoor adventures for our children. Our cultural animations were exceptionally popular and positively impacted our students learning: Environmental protection and energy saving activity in French : Intervention from scholars from UCL working on a local Energy saving project intervene in our school to teach students about how to save energy and we built a project around it in French (March 23). French Drama activity: In class intervention with our French drama teacher to initiate our children towards wonderful language learning tools and ways of better expressing the language with real French intonations. Great exchange with Woolwich Works-Actin Theatre - The French Institute theatre and cinema in April 2023. Our end of year school fun day (July 2023) Planned visits and partnership for new language project ideas We aimed to bring our children to Docklands Museum At Typhoon Dragon Boat Club French Forest class: French learning activities on plants, gardening held in open air at Thames Barrier Park in Mai 2023. Furthermore, we grabbed some great opportunities through local language conferences to build upon some amazing partnerships for the development of further project ideas related to French language learning for the benefit our students. Our fellow partnerships allowed children to travel in London for educational visits at very low and/or free of costs. « Destination DLR » for instance: We approached their services for planning the visit of « Museum of London in Docklands » « The Crystal » (in Royal Victoria), « Fly a kite on Blackheath » (in Lewisham), « Newham City Farm » (in Beckton).
With “Bilingual Matter” we organised a meeting for Newham and East London parents enabling them along with their children to be provided with French learning resources in terms of bilingual education and to discuss about their children language learning current and further opportunities through complementary and /or bilingual school.
We approached “Bilinguakid” services and platform to discuss for a bilingual education need for our students in French language learning. This was a great exchange with our language expert Anna Joachim. Finally, we worked collaboratively with ” Parapluie FLAM UK”, “Féderation FLAM Monde” in terms of excellent language teaching resources; Indeed, this worldwide association of French complementary schools in collaboration with the AEFE(the French Educational Agency for Foreign French Language) helps local French schools all over the world with advice, support and teachers CPD online training allowing them to stay up to date with the French curriculum and national one and to ensure it is well respected and well regulated.
