The Principal effea of the FM)or weather wa5 on vtsilor numbers, with attendance well down on pr¢vious years. However torrenttal doiNfftwur didn't darn￿n the spints of all those that did brave the weather to attend the show. The feedback was overwhelmingly ￿SItiVe. with many of the trade stands, visitors and exhibitors alike, already intimating that they want to come back next year. The hea￿ rain sent ￿Ople into the tenls and the bar in large numbers. Many of Ihe Craft and Trade stands repx)rted fabulous sales. with several deterniined to Stay until ih¢ end The Gait Inn, provid¢rs of th¢ bar, should have been more than delighted with the result! Tent classes of ty￿$ were very well suprA)rt¢d. Throughoui ihe day there was always plenty of aclivity in ihe horse and pony arenas. Having only recenily been reintroduced. this area continues to bain in popularily. Els¢wh¢re the sh¢q) classes were also very wpular and always had a Crowd around ihem. Sheep agility, a Crowd favourite. added to the fun and encouraging the next generation of handlers. New shearer Richard Clifford provided an excellent shearing dcmonslration as well. Understandably numbers for the vintsge cars and tractors were down this year, given the weather. By la* afternoon the rain heavy for us lo run the wtato themed 'Farniing through the Ages, demonsiraiion. Nevertheless, Ihrou&ih the generosity of a few local farn)ers and Grimrne in Market Weighton we had some fabulous machines to look at. We w￿en't short of enlcrtainment wilh many favourites back by ￿pular demand including Jofers Hall Viking demon5tratton. Guiding Sparks Cirus and the Purple Pig Company. Hu8ely wpular were Mane and Paddy P¢nnock and ih¢ir Percheron horses. The Beast run was back. with a slightly amended, but boggy course. Two competitors completed the whole cours¢ in cricket whites. includinb bats and ￿d$. raising awareness for the Ruth Strauss Foundation. Music was provided on the bandstand from Deke Rivers and the wonderful Malton White Star band. all ivho carried on playing valianily through the rainl Finally. the Habitual Drunkards in played out the day in the bar. The 'Farniing through the Age5, theme clearly resonates with ihe visitors. The fundamentsl ¢ihos is lo boih enlertain and educate. Next year ihe th¢me is grass and hay production which byives us great opp)rtunity to ¢ducate about different grass s￿cleS. animals and th¢ technology used to produce il. Ii is a cost-effe¢tiv¢ enl¢rtainment too. Looking ahead, we will continue to develop the o￿Tating infrastruclur¢ and fin¢ tune the layout, mindful of changing legisl3lion (Martyn's Law e5E¢cially). reviewing gate security, on field vehicle movement5 and 'cketing arrangements. We are also mindful that w¢ should be prepared for all weather eventualities. How do we hold a successful show in the rain? The committee have Vol￿ to S￿nd capital on upjatinb the websit¢ with providers Wcbcetra. Similarly, licket txx)king and entrance arrangyements are continually reviewed to M￿lM15e the use of technology to simplify and automale wherever w)ssible. This year we've had some terrific SUp￿rt from local businesses, with some new swnsors. A detern]in¢d and coordinated effort to increase Vice President donations Wds very cffective too.
