We have 3 track record in delivering sensiThve and challenging projects wherÈ young pÈople Project Team5 are actively

We utilise the resource pack tool in practice and deliver workshops colleges. uni¥ersiiies, practitioners,

these projects with various instilutions, organisations aThd partners and at Darl￿0￿ Youth Cent￿.
We supporteLI young people to explore issues affecting them. how and why they become involved in anti-social
behaviour, the perceptions anil the consequences and they created an edutaltonal fllm t3I1Èd Ihink about *tl which
helped to rÈduts anti-social behaviour in the area. A Project Team of young women have undertaken a heritage

over live years with the active involvemerrt of young people. We received three quarterly payments for year two wth
total 01 £89,901 ITorn July 2023- Marih 2024.
In the local Darlaston area there ha5 been a historical ongoing problem of sexual exploitation ol young women.
Members of our juniorlsenior group have been committin£ anti-social behaviour and targeting single female residents
who live locally. They have been using threatening behawours. unacceptsble lanÉuage and harassment. We h3ve
been working Wlth them to addre55 this behaviour and re31ise thal knowingly or unknowing these actiorts towards
lemales Is learnt behaviouf and somethin£ that these young men consider to be -normal~ an acceptable way of
trpatin8 vJomÈn. These attitudes towards women are deep rooted ènd srtm frtsm gender inequality and the mindset
ol parents that have been passed owt from generalions. Youn8 men in the Ioc31 area have been conditioned to think
that a woman's role is in the home. We 3ddre5S these issues bKause from ovr experience young men have been
xploited by older peers and as a result have become involved in 8iooming and criminal offences. From our
experience we are aware of the difference in the parenting of sons and d3ughiers. Young men are put on a pedestal
which gives them a false sense ol security and no underslanding of con9equenti31 behaviour. Young women are
prepared for the role of 3 housewlfe and experience inequality and oppression.

Report of the Trustees
for the year ended 30th June 2024
We have identified that young women in Darl3ston experience mental health issues due to the cultural restrictions
placed on them such as arranged marriages and gender- based inequalibe5 they are ￿$trICted with regards to
further education and career5. ThFs Trmpacts on their self*steem leading to depression. self- harm and suicide which

safe space for them to share issues and access support. We work with young women to provfjde support for them
W1th their emotional health and well-being. We have an actNe young women's group and the activities we undertake
have raised their self-esteem, aspirations and enhance the qtsality of their Itves. We also undertake joint sessions with
theFT rnums which enables siaff to build and maintaln trusting relationship5 whith is pEramounttD the young women's
Conlinual engagement.
From our experience. in the local community young people are aflÈtted by substance misuse, there are a latk of
positive role rnDdels and opportunities, and rhe people they aspire to be like and look up to are negative and engage
in criminal activities. Thi5 Issue histc*ric311y impacts on many 8ener3tions and clrculates within families, young people
become vulnerable and exploited by their older peer5. they become Llemotivated, disengagetl, with no fear of
boundaries or aurhodty and there is a deterioration in their phystcal and mental well-being. 3nd they are unable to
break the cyde. From our experience and our engagement with young people it is b￿ornInG apparenl that this is a
pievalent and ongoing issue which is increasin8. Thls is also why earty Intervention work is crucial to tackle issues
early on and our work is fundamental to positively engage young people. provide positive role models, develop their
skills and raise their aSpirati￿S to create change and enhance the quality of their INes and improve their life-chances.
We ale working with young people as young as ninÈ years old because we recognise the importance of early
intervEntion, Irom uur experlence we are aware that young people at a younger age have access to phones, iniernet
and social media and are vulnerable to the risks that these pose including exploiiètion and groomin8. so our work Is
