Hope for African Communities UK is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales (Charity Number: 1178602). The charity is governed by its Constitution, which outlines the responsibilities and powers of the trustees. 

The Board of Trustees oversees the strategic direction, governance, and compliance of the charity. Trustees are appointed in accordance with the Constitution and bring a range of skills and experience to support the charity’s work. 

The trustees meet regularly to review activities, finances, risks, and future plans. Day ‑ to ‑ day operations are carried out by trustees and volunteers, as the charity does not employ staff. 

## 2. Objectives and Activities 

The charity’s purpose is to support disadvantaged individuals and communities through practical ‑ assistance, empowerment initiatives, and community focused programmes. 

During the year, the trustees ensured that all activities aligned with the charity’s objectives and delivered clear public benefit. Activities were designed to: 

- Support vulnerable individuals and families 

- Strengthen community wellbeing 

- Promote inclusion and dignity 

- Build capacity for long ‑ term community development 

The trustees confirm that they have complied with the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit. 

## 3. Achievements and Performance 

Throughout the year, the charity continued to build its operational foundations and strengthen its ability to deliver meaningful support. 

Key achievements included: 

- Providing assistance to individuals and families facing hardship 

- Strengthening governance and internal processes 

- Maintaining engagement with supporters, volunteers, and community partners

The trustees are satisfied with the progress made and remain committed to expanding the charity’s impact. 

## 4. Activities and Achievements During the Year 

The charity continued to operate in furtherance of its charitable purposes. Activities focused on: 

- Supporting disadvantaged individuals and families 

- Enhancing operational capacity 

- Strengthening volunteer involvement 

- Maintaining readiness to deliver community ‑ based initiatives 

The trustees are confident that the charity’s work during the year provided clear public benefit. 

## 5. Financial Review 

All income received during the reporting period consisted of restricted funding provided for specific charitable purposes. 

Expenditure was applied to: 

- Charitable activities supporting vulnerable individuals 

- Essential operational and administrative costs 

The trustees monitor finances closely and maintain appropriate financial controls to ensure funds are used effectively and in accordance with donor restrictions. 

The trustees consider the charity’s financial position to be stable within the context of its restricted ‑ funding model. 

## 6 . Public Benefit Statement 

The trustees confirm that they have complied with their duty under Section 17 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit.

The trustees are satisfied that the charity’s activities during the year furthered its charitable purposes and provided public benefit. 

## 7 . Risk Management 

The trustees recognise the importance of identifying and managing risks that could affect the charity’s ability to operate effectively. 

Key risks include: 

- Financial risk: No unrestricted reserves held during the year 

- Income fluctuation: Reliance on voluntary and project ‑ specific funding 

- Operational capacity: Volunteer ‑ led structure may limit delivery capacity 

- Compliance risk: Ensuring adherence to charity law and safeguarding requirements 

- Reputational risk: Maintaining trust with beneficiaries and partners 

Mitigation measures include: 

- Careful monitoring of cash flow and restricted funds 

- Ensuring expenditure aligns with donor restrictions 

- Strengthening governance and documentation 

- Maintaining transparent communication with supporters 

- Reviewing safeguarding and compliance procedures annually 

## 8. Reserves Policy 

All income received during the year was restricted funding. As a result, the charity did not hold any unrestricted reserves. 

The trustees recognise the importance of building unrestricted reserves in the future to support operational stability and the ability to respond to unforeseen needs. 

A reserves strategy will be developed as unrestricted income becomes available.

## 9. Safeguarding Policy 

The trustees are committed to safeguarding children, young people, and vulnerable adults. 

Safeguarding measures include: 

- Clear safeguarding procedures 

- Volunteer awareness and training 

- Appropriate checks on partners and collaborators 

- Annual review of safeguarding arrangements 

- Prompt response to any concerns raised 

The trustees ensure that all activities are delivered safely and responsibly. 

## 10. Volunteer Contribution Statement 

‑ Hope for African Communities UK is entirely volunteer led. The trustees acknowledge the invaluable contribution of volunteers who give their time, skills, and commitment to support the charity’s work. 

Volunteers assist with governance, administration, planning, and community engagement. Their dedication enables the charity to operate effectively while keeping costs low and ensuring resources are directed toward charitable purposes. 

The trustees express their sincere gratitude to all volunteers who supported the charity during the year. 

## 11. Plans for Future Periods 

The trustees remain committed to strengthening the charity’s capacity and expanding its impact. 

Planned priorities include: 

- Developing new community ‑ focused programmes 

- Strengthening partnerships with local organisations 

- Increasing volunteer engagement 

- Improving governance and operational processes

## 12. Trustee Responsibilities Statement 

The trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees’ Annual Report and financial statements in accordance with applicable law and the charity’s Constitution. 

The trustees must ensure that: 

- Proper accounting records are kept 

- Financial statements give a true and fair view 

- The charity complies with relevant laws and regulations 

- Funds are used in accordance with donor restrictions 

- Risks are identified and managed 

The trustees confirm that they have met these responsibilities during the reporting period. 

## 13 . Financial Notes 

All income received during the year was restricted funding. The charity did not employ staff; all activities were carried out by trustees and volunteers. 

The trustees confirm that: 

- Proper accounting records have been maintained 

- Funds were used only for their intended purposes 

- The charity remained financially solvent 

The financial statements have been prepared on a receipts ‑ and ‑ payments basis in line with Charity Commission guidance for small charities.
