It was set up by Mufaro Mapanda as the founding member. ## **Recruitment of Trustees** New trustees are appointed by the leaders based on their character, experience, and suitability for trusteeship of the charity. Trustee’s status at the beginning of the year was: Mufaro Mapanda – Chair from 22/10/2019 Fortune Mketwa – Trustee from 1/06/2018 Tekpenor Anim – Trustee from 1/06/2018 Mercy Musvipa – Trustee from 06/02/2021 Edith Muzenda - Trustee from 06/02/2021 Melanie Impey - Trustee from 01/04/2021 Mark Hambleton – Trustee from 09/11/2020 **No trustee has any beneficial interest in the charitable company.** ## **Membership** The Charity welcomes membership and participation from everyone whose lives demonstrate their commitment to furthering the work and spread of goodwill in the United Kingdom and abroad. The objectives of the Hope for African Communities (HAC) are: - The relief of financial hardship, either generally or individually, of people particularly widows or orphans in the UK and Africa by providing empowerment through financial assistance. - Supporting those in need, by reason of disability through the provision of mobility aids and, financial assistance - The funding orphans education (funding their transport, food and school uniforms). The activities are: - Training on sustainable income generating projects. - Educational support in the form of uniforms, transport, food, school fees and Stationery. - Providing shelter. - Providing food - Targeted fundraising campaigns - Such other charitable purposes as the trustees in their absolute discretion may think fit. ## **ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE IN YEAR ENDED** ## **31st May 2022** ## **CHARITABLE MISSIONS** HAC supports Zvamaida Primary School in collaboration with the Zimbabwe HAC. ## **EQUIPMENT DONATIONS, STORAGE AND SHIPMENT** Computer equipment was donated to Zvamaida to ensure the children would have some IT equipment to use in their new classrooms. ## **MEETINGS AND EVENTS CONDUCTED IN THE YEAR UNDER REVIEW** HAC was formally supported by the Rotary organisation through which links were made with Rotary Club of Harare in Zimbabwe and the Rotary Club of Basildon Concord in the UK. The construction project for four classroom blocks were completed during the year to 31[st] May 2022. Visits to Zimbabwe were made to both review progress and sign -off on the work completed to date. All transactions and finances regarding the Zvamaida project were recorded by the Rotary Clubs, Districts and Rotary International. Although the project was started by HAC, the finances did not pass through HAC Accounts. Separately from the main project funded by Rotary International and following on from donations from Scurrah Wainwright Charity and Norah Smith Solicitors, HAC (UK) was able to provide funding for fencing the full perimeter of Zvamaida school. This work was completed in July 2021. Over the year, HAC (UK) engaged in a number of activities in response to an appeal put forward by the Mayor of Basildon, to tackle loneliness and social isolation amongst the BAME community. These included: Operating a foodbank within the Basildon area which provided special dietary foods for mainly refugees and diverse community groups within the Basildon area. HAC (UK) was partnered by a major food retail brand and the Essex Association of local councils. A bead-making project was run by HAC (UK) to provide the BAME community with an opportunity to socialise while learning a skill. Upon completion, a few beneficiaries expressed intentions to start small businesses making and selling beads after being inspired by this project and their newly acquired skills. In June 2021, an online fitness class was conducted by HAC (UK) utilising a grant from the Essex Association of local councils. The grant was used to buy fitness equipment which was loaned to participants over the duration of the classes. When no classes are in session, the equipment is kept in storage. Hansen Solicitors in November 2021 kindly donated IT office equipment along with funding for the transportation of the kit to HAC (UK) offices for use in conducting our Charity work. During 2022, Clean Conscience Charity donated liquid soap which was sent to Zimbabwe to help alleviate the effects of COVID-19. A Special go -fund – me campaign was run to fund the shipping costs of these and other donations. **REPORT OF TRUSTEES** ## **Statement of Trustees’ Responsibilities.** The trustees are required to prepare a trustees report and financial statements for each financial year in accordance with applicable law and UK accounting standards, which give true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and the incoming resources and application of resources, including the net income or expenditure, of the charity for the year in preparing those financial statements, the trustees are required to. ## **Reserves policy.** All of the funds on the charitable company are regarded as unrestricted. The Hope for African Communities manages its expenditure to ensure that it keeps sufficient funds to meet future needs.
