MUSIC FOR THE MEMORY
CHARITY NO: 1178578
CIO
TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT – 1 APRIL 20201-31 MARCH 2022
Purpose of the Charity
Music for the Memory (MFTM) exists to provide access to a fun, free and no obligation singing programme for those living with memory issues, including the elderly, those diagnosed with dementia and their carers. During Covid restrictions last year, the ability to change the way in which MFTM operated, in order to maintain its commitment to the community has undoubtedly guaranteed its survival and, thereby, its potential to flourish post Pandemic. Live sessions have resumed but in addition we also live stream these sessions via Zoom, enabling those unable to get to us to continue to access the service.
Funding
National Lottery Funding:
Towards the end of the previous period, MFTM was awarded funding from the National Lottery Community Fund. The purpose of the grant was to enable the charity to continue to develop connections with people in our community. The money was allocated to two specific areas.
-
To help those who were either isolated, needed assistance to access online sessions or where a carer might need valuable ‘downtime’, money was made available to pay for a Personal Assistant from the local council’s accredited Support with Confidence Scheme for the duration of the singing session.
-
To help those who showed an interest in the weekly Zoom sessions, but had no means of accessing them, user-friendly 4G computer tablets were made available on loan.
Due to covid restrictions it was not possible to spend this money within the time period of the grant, however the National Lottery has allowed an extension into 2023.
East Sussex Community Fund
We were awarded a grant of £4,000 to purchase equipment to improve the experience for our clients in both live and zoom sessions . this grant was fully spent and the new equipment has made a big difference for our clients.
Other Fundraising:
Personal donations and a variety of individual sponsored activities accounted for the remaining income.
Volunteers
With live sessions restarting in this period the role of volunteers has been crucial. We had a total of 8 volunteers, including Trustees who were very hands-on at the sessions.
During this period we have also started to pay a self-employed professional singer to lead the singing sessions.
