Ourmission is to produce Rround breaking proiects that involve our community. W¢ ¢ncoura%¢
them to get excited about the arts and digltal techT)ology. We provide a free platfomi for the
young people of the area to participate in the creative arts, alongside industry professionaLs.
ENSURING OUR WORK DELIVERS OUR AIMS We review our aims, objectives arnl
activities each year. This review looks * what we achieved and the outcomes of our WOTk in
rhe previous 12 nKtrnths. The review looks al the success of each project and th¢ benefits they
have brought to those ￿UpS of people we are set up to help. The Teview also helps us ensure
our ainl objectives and activities remainlul focused on our staled purposes. We have referred
to the %uidance contained in the Charity Conuni&8ion's Reneral Ruidance on public benefrt
when reviewing our aim and objectives and in planning our future activities. In particular, the
irnst¢es consid¢r how planned activities and future projects will wntribut¢ to thc aims
objectives they have set.

DEVELOPMENTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

mainlains its v81ida¢ion and recogniti(￿ as treative arts organisatiott. workingw'ith the community at
large. Each year the Charity CO￿￿nI￿ to worknngwith tnarginalised groups within the area. Itopernts
and mainiains a welkgite aTMlsocial media.
Over the last 12 months we have started working in partnership with more local organisations

in the developnKnt and delivery of our third community fthn 'Same but Different,. This film
project will involve over 60 young people from Neath Port Talbot WOTking alongside
professional actOTS, tackling hate crime and negative behaviour experienced byyoung LGB T+
community. Planned to film over 10 days in Juty 2020, due to the Coronavirns pandemic, it is
currentty scheduled forFebruary and March 2021
In September 2019 Afan Arts, cyber bullying project 'B is forBully' won most Inspirational
Film of theFestivaL at Wales International Film festival

Our creative director and cbairperson Denise Francis also won Most Inspirational Individual
of the Year 2019. from The Ben Cohen Standup Foundation, in recognition of her ongoing
anti-bullying wo￿.
PREMISES There are now£oncrete prop)sals forAf8n Arts to be relocated in a purpose-built
Creative Hub in the re-development and refu￿LShMent of East Port Talbot. Afan Arts will
pursue this opportunity. making Sure that if relocation takes place, we wlll receive adequate
space, a secure lease and fair reni. Relocation lo this premises will enable us to provide a free
and iDcIu5ive youth theatre for the young peopk of our community.

As part of the UK GOvernD￿ntS support pxkag& foi chattties to continue to operate during
and post COtDnavIn￿ pandemic, Afan Arts succ¢&sfulty applied for a Bounce Back IA)&n.
Aimed at the Sn￿lleSt of ¢ntities. it was the ny)st appiDpriate nxaDS by which small not for
profits can mitigate loss of revenue and cash flow disruptions. As Coronavirus has significantly
delayed funding appLicatM)n decisions aod opening dates for futll￿ funding, the BBL was feh
necessary.

We are now developing D￿)￿ long-temi funding relationsh￿S, to cover core costs and develq)
our chaTity be more tban a sel￿tIOn of projects and enable us to plan to provide a Youth
Theatre, regular, ¢asily aCc￿1￿le, in4)iratlODal activities, that will involve young people in the
arts. increase confidence. self-esteem and achieve success.

Our second year saw fmancial growth of 215 0/0 and we anticipate a similar growth rate
going into Year 3.
2019-2020 has been a challenging year. After suCc￿$fUllY reaching our budget targ
forour'same But DiffeTent'proje¢t, it bas been disappointing tosee it being postponed,
due to the CoronaviNs Pandemic, to 2021. but we are using this extsa time to expaThl
the number of beneficiaries.
June 2020 saw the creation of ow r￿st paKI post. of CJrativ¢ Director. who is
rwonsible for the planning of projects and Youth Theatre.
We will Continue to give young p¢opl¢ a voice, to tackl¢ important issues, using drama
fora power of good. This is particularty Tmportant foryoung people from marginalised
backgrounds as they are le&s likely lo gei involved in aclivities, due to lack of
Confidence or opportunity
Sadty, young people will be disproportionately affecied by the Coronavin]s Pandemic,
therefore opportunities for young people need to be plentiful.
Future Plans
Afan Arts are optimistic about the proposed relocation of our chaTity to our town's new
creative hub, where our s¢rvices will bc more regularly and casily acccssed by the
community.
