Trustees' Annual Report 2024-25
deaf awareness: NE was established to raise deaf awareness amongst people and communities and bring together deaf and hearing people with areas of common interest.
As of April 2024 a firm structure had been established within our Reaching Communities National Lottery Project called Together: Better Access.
Within this project we were able to deliver a weekly programme that incorporated Sports & Health, Arts & Creativity, Learning, and Support Groups. As our programme was more robust than previous years this led to an increase in attendance of just over 20% from the same period of the previous year (March 2024 to March 2025).
We continued our work in the local community, looking at access challenges for deaf people when attending cinemas, theatres, museums, and galleries.
Sadly in December 2024 one of our committee members, Maureen Smith-Price, passed away. Maureen’s family were kind enough to donate money to deaf awareness NE via contributions raised at Maureen’s funeral and beyond. This financial contribution helps our quest to improve access to arts and entertainment venues for deaf people.
In parallel with our weekly programme and our community work, we delivered deaf awareness training initiatives and sign language promotional sessions to local community centres.
Alongside our funding from National Lottery, we were also extremely grateful for continued funding from Sir James Knott Trust and the Peter Harrison Foundation, as well as additional funding from Hadrian Trust.
Within this financial period funding was also secured from the Integrated Care Board for our forthcoming Digital Inclusion Project, and from National Lottery Awards For All for our new hard of hearing project.
Membership subscriptions and donations have again been extremely valuable in helping us to maintain the diversity and quality in service delivery that we take pride in offering.
Our social media platforms play a big part in helping to keep our members informed and connected, with regular updates on our website and positive posts appearing across our Facebook and Instagram pages.
Our members, volunteers and Board of Trustees remain key to the success of our organisation and we, once again, thank each and every person for their attendance, contribution and support throughout this financial year.
Trustees’ Responsibilities in relation to Financial Statements
Charity Law requires the Trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which comply with the regulations set out in the Charities Act 1993.
