About Us
Our mission is to create a future where endometriosis is recognised and understood. Our purpose is to do all it takes to support people with endometriosis.
The Endometriosis Foundation is a patient led organisation enabling us to provide real-life tailored advice in a sensitive and compassionate manner. We work inclusively with various medical professionals and our members to provide practical advice and emotional support to all those in need, in particular those within the later stages of endometriosis (moderate – severe), striving continually to further our cause for greater clarity and information around endometriosis.
Our goal is to
-
Raise awareness of endometriosis
-
Provide transparent information you can trust
-
Educate the public, health care professionals, and in particular, young people about endometriosis and the importance an early diagnosis and seeking adequate care.
-
Provide a safe and supportive place for all those in need
About endometriosis
Endometriosis causes enormous suffering to more than 1 in 10 people of reproductive age, but remains understudied, underdiagnosed and poorly treated. In the U.K. alone, it currently takes on average 8 years to be diagnosed. In 8 years, a student completes an entire cycle of school. Endometriosis causes lifelong suffering filled with uncertainty. The symptoms can lead to chronic pain, urinary, bowel and breathing issues, organ failure, early onset menopause, infertility, and depression, and there is no cure.
The Endometriosis Foundation’s goal is to arm people with all the information they need to navigate their way through their endometriosis journey. Having access to these services can be life-changing, and for some, a life saver. Many are often neglected during their endometriosis journey, and we know first-hand how valuable these resources can be.
In loving memory
On Friday, October 15[th] , 2021, our hearts were broken to hear the devastating news of the loss of Sir David Amess who sadly passed away following a cruel and violent attack that took place and his constituency surgery.
The Endometriosis Foundation wishes to continue his legacy in becoming a charity dedication to raising awareness, informing, and supporting all those affected by Endometriosis.
Our year
We were luckily enough to be able to continue holding our support groups online throughout the past year and these sessions are still running. After a lot of feedback, we learnt that online support groups were a strong preference for a lot of people within our community, enabling those that were maybe not feeling particularly well and perhaps unable to leave the house, to still benefit from accessing support.
We continue to meet fortnightly via Zoom and these sessions have become a reliable and trusted source of support and we continue to provide care, advice, and guidance for some of the most vulnerable people amongst our community
Our future
Following the loss of Sir David Amess, we have found ourselves in a position where we are to appoint a new acting Chair for the charity.
Going forward, we plan to expand our support services by fundraising to set up bi-weekly face-to face support groups offering a safe and supportive place for those affected to come along and meet others, seek guidance, and connect with others going through similar experiences, helping them feel less alone. We aim to raise funds to enable us to continue raising awareness of endometriosis, hold informative events, fundraising and awareness activities, and develop our support services.
Our goal is to launch a fully functioning website tailored to affected by endometriosis. We aim to provide an all-inclusive patient information website that entails everything needed to know from information about endometriosis, the signs to look out for, the treatments available, referral pathways, fertility and nutrition advice, and advice to patients on how to get the most from their medical team.
