Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year
- Warren Wood GU16 8SW Ancient Woodland
Restoration. (1.35 Hectares)
This was our first working site which commenced in November 2018. We are now finally at the end of the removal of invasive species, mainly Holly, Laurel, and a small amount of Snowberry. Once again during the year we were delighted to have support from Surrey Choices. Our volunteers have done an amazing job and it is lovely to see the flowering of revived native plant life, including Daffodils, Anemone and Bluebells, to hear bird song which had been missing for many years, and note the large amount of Badger activity in this beautiful woodland oasis surrounded by housing. Our average Volunteer turnout at this site is estimated as about 6 per session. Going forward, we now need to keep the wood clear of regrowth from the invasives and garden (domestic) plants, to encourage the native plants to thrive for future generations to enjoy.
- Windlesham Field of Remembrance, GU20 6AA Woodland Maintenance.
We have been supporting this lovely Community owned, mainly Beech Woodland, for 3 years. During 2022 we cut out much Laurel and Holly to reinstate the understory. Our efforts over the years have allowed hundreds of Native (Beech, Birch and Oaks) to self-plant, root and grow. As at Warren Wood, we have also put up many Bat and Bird Boxes a number of which are now being used. In Spring 2022 we put in a Dead Hedge around part of the traditional pond to protect Frog and Toad spawning areas from disturbance, and also allow an area for the Ducks to rest on land not easily chased off by dogs and children. This action was hugely appreciated by visitors and management alike. For the future, we envisage continuing cutting out the invasive species and also restricting their regrowth. In 2023 we have planted approximately 100 new saplings in a cleared area where senior trees have succumbed to “old age”. Our volunteer numbers at this site have varied from 4 to sometimes 7, 8 or more at work parties.
- R M A Sandhurst GU15 4PQ Woodland Maintenance and Ivy Reduction
This was a new site for us in 2022, and is not without its challenges due to security protocols and staff communications. However, we have overcome these

challenges so far, and much enjoyed our efforts. We were invited to work with RMA as the trees planted in the late 1800s are very much mature now and need a helping hand to overcome the Ivy and some under story competition.
Volunteer numbers on this project are about 8 to 10 per session which, considering that we work there one Saturday per month, and all helpers have to be security cleared, which takes time, I feel is very acceptable.
Frimley Green Recreation Ground and Woodland GU16 - 6LB Planting approx. 1,000 saplings
Approximately 1,000 saplings were planted at Frimley Green Recreation Ground. Further replacement planting will be undertaken in 2024
-
- Windlemere SANG GU24 9QL Newly Developed - – SANG Planting of Community Orchard 47 Semi Mature Fruit Trees
This was a wonderful project for us to be involved with planting in 2022 and helping with maintenance in 2023. The Orchard includes many varieties of fruit, including a Walnut Tree! This project is certainly a legacy that will be appreciated by the Community for many decades to come.
In November of 2023 Tree Wardens helped the local community to plant a new hedge at St John the Baptist Church in Bisley...an extremely muddy affair!
We also did a stint helping children plant whips on the school boundary at Holy Trinity School in West End.
