Achievements and Performance

Conservation Due to the Coronavirus pandemic Surrey Heath Tree Wardens’ activities have been limited during 2020 as we have followed the guidance from the Tree Council to suspend volunteering activities during the lockdowns. Accordingly, on site conservation work was restricted to just 3 months of the year, spread over four sites we are currently supporting;

were no working visits and purely advisory work • Windlesham Field of Remembrance GU20 -6AA -- Clearance of invasive species, and the donation and putting up of bird boxes. • Warren Woods, Frimley GU16 8SW we continued our clearance of invasive non-native species and replanting work to restore the understory with appropriate young trees. We have now completed the restoration of approximately a quarter of this Ancient Woodland. • Holy Trinity School, West End, GU24 9QL, we donated and planted four fruit trees for educational purposes and planted two areas with young trees which will grow to protect the school grounds from oversight by new housing developments. We also assisted Cordwalles Junior School to carry out planting of native tree whips and with their application to the Tree Council for a grant to enable the purchase of cherry trees for their orchard. Education Apart from a limited amount of field training for our volunteers we were not able to carry out any Educational projects during the year due to the limitations imposed by the lockdowns.
