Our trustees all have a relation to Autism. We have also studied and completed a Level 2 in Understanding Autism.
We are a parent led charity. The majority of our volunteers have a child with autism or are autistic themselves. All volunteers have completed a Level 2 Understanding Autism course too. Little Treasures are working in partnership with Learning Curve to offer Government funded, Level 2 accredited courses to our members as well as the wider public.
We also have good working relationships with Relax Kids, One Point, CAMHS, Durham County Council, iapps, Springboard, Local PCSO’s and the local fire departments, schools, Family Fund, paediatricians, local councillors, local MP’s and mayors and a lot of local community organisations and stores.
Trustees have regular meetings and we use feedback forms and our Facebook page to ensure our sessions run accordingly and connect with families about what they would benefit from and would like to see in groups.

The objects of the CIO are for the public benefit

1) To relieve the needs of children and young people with autism and their parents, carers and siblings by providing facilities for play and recreation in the interests of social welfare in a safe and secure environment.

2) The promotion of social inclusion among parents and carers of children with autism who are socially excluded from society, or parts of society, as a result of their child’s condition by providing advice, guidance and general support and recreational facilities.

Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit) Little Treasures offer sensory play sessions for children with autism and their siblings. There are information tables for signposting families to organisations, parents/carers being socially included within these sessions meeting others who can relate. We also have Lego/social groups to promote communication and turn taking skills. We also offer parent support sessions. We offer activities such as relax kids, which help promote positive self esteem, confidence and mental health. We also have pet therapy into our sessions, which helps communication and a calm environment. We also use Sand Art regularly which promotes creativity and great for sensory seekers. We have had a slime workshop, pool party and pony rides too for our members. Within our parent support groups we have had a reiki and massage in our sessions too. We hold annual Christmas parties, which are fully inclusive to the whole family. These include personalised invites, a party, a sensory Santa visit and a present from him. In December 2018 170 children were able to access an inclusive Christmas party.
To educate and raise awareness of autism we offer level 2 courses to members as well as the public in understanding autism, challenging behaviour and young people’s mental health. We have had hairdressers, nurseries, community centre employers and teachers attend.
From all these activities we have included children with autism, their siblings and their families into a safe, non judgmental environment, socially including families, therefore promoting positive mental health.

Little Treasures is made up of 18 volunteers. We currently have 13 groups across the North East. All money raised goes back into our charity to support and reach more families. Looking ahead we would like to expand into more areas, offer more workshops to our members as well as working with other organisations and schools.
We have plans this summer for an inclusion activities summer workshop, where we will have younger autistic children, older autistic children/young people and siblings and holding activities for them all throughout the summer holidays. Activities include horse riding, rock climbing, camping and a silent disco. We are keen to bring the whole family together and allow children and young people to access activities throughout their summer holidays.
Our long term goal is to have a building with a multi sensory room and offer sessions and employment from our building.

Section D Achievements and performance
Our main achievements since becoming a charity in May 2018 Summary of the main are the expansions of 8 groups. These consist of 2 new Lego achievements of the groups and 6 sensory play sessions in which we have connected charity during the year with 110 new families. We have connected with 1,500 parents via our private Facebook page, 3,000 people on our open page, used to advertise and promote our charity and we have also created a Professional Facebook page and a Home Education Facebook page in preparation for future plans. We also have a new webpage. We also received our trademark since becoming a charity. We have been in a position to offer workshops in anxiety, Makaton and sensory difficulties across this coming year. We are aware of the costs the majority of these workshops cost to families so we are ensuring we are giving families the opportunity to access these via Little Treasures that they may not necessarily be able to afford or access otherwise. We are currently planning autism awareness week for April and have some exciting things planned and since becoming a charity we have had the opportunity to work closely with schools. Within the local schools we have held coffee mornings for the parents/carers who have children in the school with autism. We explain what we do as a charity and signpost them to other organisations that may be able to help them. These have been very beneficial and the feedback has been excellent. Since becoming a charity we have had the opportunity to hold regular activities within our groups too, allowing families to experience activities they may not have been able to access or afford to access outside of the group. We are Ferryhill’s mayor chosen charity this year too and have received a lot of support from local councillors in the areas we hold our groups.

Our funding has come from grants for activities, core costs for the running of our groups and for workshops.
We have also been in 3 local Asda stores for their green token community fund and in 2 local Tesco stores for their blue token community funds.
Since becoming a charity we have continued to fundraise and the public have continued to support us in this.

We hold family fun days, where local businesses have stalls and we have face painting, magicians and bouncy castles. These are very popular with our younger members. We hold raffles and

tombola’s and have various children’s games, such as hook the duck. Our local fire departments come along in their fire engines and allow the children to have a look in and get a photograph. Our local PCSO’s also attend and a number of families have signed up to their Herbert Protocol system via our fun days upon speaking with PCSO’s.
We have a quiet hour so autistic members of our communities can enjoy the fun days too.
We hold charity nights also for adults where there is bingo, live entertainment and raffles.
All of our fundraising events are held in the heart of local communities, bringing communities together and raising awareness.
