The charity is run by volunteers and the office holders of finance and secretariat are both volunteers and not trustees.

The trustees ensure that there are strict financial and operational controls in place governing the activities of the Kwinella Diaspora Association. There has been constant monitoring of spend in the Gambia making sure that the fund reaches the target beneficiaries and proof of this available as well.

  2. TO RELIEF OF POVERTY AND FINANCIAL HARDSHIP FOR PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY OF KWINELLA IN THE GAMBIA BY PROVIDING OR ASSISTING IN THE PROVISION OF EDUCATION (INCLUDING PHYSICAL EDUCATION), TRAINING AND HEALTHCARE PROJECTS IN SUCH WAYS AS THE TRUSTEES SEE FIT.

During the period under review, Kwinella Diaspora Association undertook a lot of activities in Kwinella the Gambia which includes but not limited to participating in the water project where the charity teamed up with partner associations on the ground to implement and address the water shortage situation in the village. The Association in collaboration with the Kwinella Stakeholders, Farantamba and DembaningNyako Associations commissioned to re-pipe the water pipe network in the village. Four tap heads and three tap heads were erected in Nya Kunda and Sangsang Kono respectively. These ensure that there is adequate water supply in the village.

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

The main achievement of the association for the year under review is the successful implementation of water pipe replacement and refurbishment project in partnership with Kwinella Stakeholders.

We have also seen the completion of welding of 75 desks and chairs for the Kwinella Primary School. We have achieved the successful provision of a chairs to the Health Centre and the Kwinella Community Centre also benefitted from a desk.

The association’s main source of funding is through the monthly £5 contributions by members of the association and volunteers. The association has also encouraged members to voluntarily pay any amount above their regular £5 monthly contributions if they can.

By addressing the water situation, this has led to a considerable reduction in the time women took to fetch water and address the hygiene needs of their various families.

The tables and chairs project has also addressed the dire need of children in the primary school to have adequate seating to enable them to have a conducive learning environment.
