The Little Sprouts team are pa&sionate about f(￿ and the health artd well-Ecing of communities. We appreciate that the
groups we WOTk with often made p(x)r food choi¢¢s, opling for budget and nutritionally deficient options. leading to
many health problems. With few people leaming basic co)kn"ng skills and incre&8ed financial constraints, this contributes
to the multifaceted issue of poor nutrition in our area.

Mollday5 ar¢ w¢ have the capacity to invite volunteers to The C0nktnu￿ty Shop, Victoria Park. We spend the time
I lam-lpm sorting doDations of food, Glothing, hov8¢ware5 etc. Due to the number of volunteers, we have recrnited a
volunleer c(KTrrdRnator, who is able to spend lin￿ witb each Dew person and cornpletc a comprehensive xtyluctson.
Volunleets are tttsrnially people who use the service and would like to give bacK or th95e looking for employment and

In oc￿ber, we realised our shop numbers were I￿reaS]ng week ID week out. ￿7th the &TriYal of iti*mational nthture
students attending Tee&%ide University, living in the inunediate area. We happily Tesponded to need, but the amount of
students wing the shop push¢d to capacity by way of f(n)d costs. We approached the university and Texeived £500 in
SaiL8burys vouchers to help. A BBC repon on the economy crdsb in Nigeria alld how this h&s' aff￿ted the t*tuden
brought the situation to a head. In Nigeria. tbe thoughi of being associated with a cbarity was not ID their culture, ¥0
overnight th¢ community stopped using our services (May 2024). Siudents of other natiollalilles still use the shop and
some Nigerians have 5tart¢d to come back. We have produced literdture explaining the difference between "receivlng
ehariry" al￿ a "ehariry" ensuring those choose to use the shop* Can do so with understanding.
The diverse customer m¢wL8 we have had to work hard to reduce any racial tensions, debunking fake facrs about the
asylum 8eeking and BAME community. This is something w¢ 4trei8 to all eust0Th￿, volunteers and staff, that everyone
is welcome and we stand firnily against racism and discrimination in all of IL8 fon￿￿. Our staternent on inclusivity w&$
brought to the forefrottt during the recent racially motivated Yiots in the county. Mat)y of our customers came to the
shop, disclosing that they al￿ families hadn't been leavitig the house during the period. We inlryted Chief It]spector Dan
Herron to our site and his wuen¢e provided much-needed re￿UranCe. We used the COPA app to r¢w)rt in8tan¢es of
rdcial abuse, with satisfyryng results.

We are proud to say that 2024 saw Sprouts receive the Kings Award for Voluntary s¢rviK, to recognise and honi)ur an
exceptional group of people who dedicate their time, energy and passion to maknng a difference in the lives of other&
Receiving the King's Award for Voluntsry Service is a testament to the unwav￿￿ti8 dedication and outstanding
contributions of our volunteers to our comrnunity. This pr¢stigious recognition is not jU8t an &cknowledgment of their
efforts. it i8 a symbol of the immense respect and admiration that is held for the volun¢¢er4 who pour their bearts aThl
souls illto m2kiDg our commLmity better.
Having been a constant in the areas we work Since the b¢¥inDing of Covid we have gained the customers, Clients, loc
business owtters and local neighboutrs In￿1. They talk to us and confide in us and we listen. In October, in direct
respojw to major ¢on¢ents about anti-social beh&vil￿ in the immediate area and extreme ra¢ism from a SDJall group of
young peopk, we conla¢ted our trusted parth¢TS at Corner House to anattge for a detaclwl youth programme to be
introduced to the area. Funded by ourselves and with an itllniediat¢ mat¢h funding response from North StaE, they used
