Our objective is to level the playing field for students from deprived areas who haven't had access to the support afforded to those in private education. Our charitable programme ensures that bright students are given the opportunities and tools that they need to achieve brilliant A Level results, and to gain admission to the UK's "Golden Triangle Universities", as well as to provide them with the skills that enable them to succeed once there. ## **Main activities for achieving objectives** The Trust carries out these objects by: - Offering intensive small group tuition to pupils in years 10-13 designated by Ark - schools as having ‘high pre-assessed ability’ to achieve outstanding GCSE and A Level results, with a view to gaining admission to elite and prestigious Universities in the United Kingdom and United States; - Awarding to such person’s scholarships, maintenance allowances or grants tenable - at any University, College or Institution of Higher of Further Education ## **ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE** We have established proof of concept over the past four years, providing high quality private tuition in situ to the most able sixth form pupils in Inner-City London schools. Four cohorts drawn from two schools - Ark Globe Academy and City of London Academy, Southwark (COLA-S), with 60% and 48% of pupils on the free school meals scheme, respectively - have participated in our programme to date. From the three cohorts that have graduated from the programme so far, an overwhelming majority gained admission to Russel Group universities, of which 19% have gone on to study at Oxford or Cambridge, and 26% have taken up offers from LSE, Imperial, UCL and KCL, with a high proportion reading STEM subjects across the board. The ways in which we support our students to fulfil their potential and exceed expectations led to a 76% attainment of A* and A grades in final examinations last year, and we have no doubt that our current and future cohorts will continue this trend. ## **Programme Details and Partnerships** 1 TUTORING TO THRIVE TRUSTEES’ REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 AUGUST 2022 The programme has a 'built in' partnership with other likeminded organisations to make sure that we give our students everything that they need to excel. Through Enjoy Education, an awardwinning tuition company, our Delivery Officer, Sarah Peters-Harrison - a first class Cambridge Graduate herself - ensures that our students receive tuition in all their subjects on a weekly basis. Tuition not only ensures that students are able to perform at the highest academic level, but that they are supported in exploring their subjects beyond the bounds of the syllabus. Indeed, to ensure that our students shine through in the highly competitive admissions process for the UK's top universities, our tutors hold Personal Statement workshops, and support students to complete an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) or Personal Research Project (PRP). EPQs and PRPs encourage students to delve into topics that really interest them, whilst learning key research methods and extended writing techniques. For those applying to Oxbridge, these projects also provide the perfect basis for conversations at interview, and we further support students by providing mock interviews at the Silk Street offices of Linklaters each year, conducted by Oxbridge specialists. In addition, the pupils attend residential conferences at Canford School in Dorset, where they are given further advice on preparing for university, exposure to emerging careers, and the opportunity to spend time with pupils from a variety of different schools. Students are also given the opportunity to draw on funds from TTT in order to attend similar events held at universities over the summer break, and to travel to work experience placements. TTT Trustees are delighted that, as of summer 2022, Dr. Margaret Coombe, a Fellow of Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford University, and former Director of the Oxford University Skills Centre, has joined TTT as an advisor. Dr. Coombe provides tailored guidance to our students, and information on what is really involved in applying to and studying at a top university. In these ways, pupils are encouraged in and supported to meet their aspirations but are not removed from their Inner-City surroundings. The schools therefore retain their most able pupils, who serve both as role models and provide academic support to younger pupils and peers. ## **Inspiring Feedback** We have had wonderful feedback on the programme from the schools, parents, tutors, and, most importantly, the students themselves, including: _"It is exciting to be part of a totally new experience where I am being encouraged to delve deeper into topics that I am passionate about. The one-to-one support I have received from inspiring tutors has been amazing." -_ Mayowa _I was provided with tutors for each of my subjects who were able to support me with any queries or issues I had when learning throughout such a disruptive time. As a result, I could also explore topics outside of the syllabus which enabled me to gain a more in depth understanding of my subjects. Furthermore, the mock interviews provided also helped to build my exposure to the atmosphere of a real university interview and made me feel much more comfortable with the whole process. Through these opportunities, I have been able to develop a rapport with my tutors and push myself academically."-_ Di'Mario 2 TUTORING TO THRIVE TRUSTEES’ REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 AUGUST 2022 _"Tutoring to Thrive have given me the opportunity to pursue an Extended Project Qualification in addition to my A Levels. Working with my tutor on this project has enabled me to develop new skills that will really help me when I start university." -_ Brenda ## **Programme Costs** The cost of the programme is £5,500 per pupil, including five terms of intensive tuition, all mentoring and workshops, and travel costs for conferences, work experience and university visits. To date, £192,250 has been raised or committed to fund the 27 students who have graduated from the programme, and the ten pupils due to graduate in 2023. The trustees take no expenses and pay for all administration, bank charges, and accounting fees for Charity Commission filing. Thus, most unusually, the whole of our donors' contributions goes toward supporting TTT's students, and this will continue. ## **FINANCIAL REVIEW AND GOING CONCERN** The results for the year were in line with the Trustees expectations. The Trustees have carefully considered all available information about the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic on the finances and operations of the charity for 12 months from the time of approving these financial statements. I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. ## **Independent examiner's statement** I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or 2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or 3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair view’ which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination. Accounting policies** ## **1.1 Basis of preparation of financial statements** The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention with items recognised at cost or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the relevant note(s) to these accounts. The accounts have been prepared in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) issued on the 1 January 2019 and with the Charites Act 2011. ## **1.2 Accounting policies** The accounts present a true and fair view and the accounting policies adopted are those outlined in note (1.1). ## **1.3 Fund accounting** General funds are unrestricted funds which are available for use at the discretion of the Trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity and which have not been designated for other purposes. ## **1.4 Incoming resources** All incoming resources are included in the Statement of Financial Activities when the charity is legally entitled to the income and the amount can be quantified with reasonable accuracy. Gifts in kind donated for distribution are included at valuation and recognised as income when they are distributed to the projects. Gifts donated for resale are included as income when they are sold. Donated facilities are included at the value to the charity where this can be quantified and a third party is bearing the cost. No amounts are included in the financial statements for services donated by volunteers. Income Tax recoverable in relation to donations received under Gift Aid or Deeds of Covenant is recognised at the time of the donation. ## **1.5 Resources expended** All expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been included under expense categories that aggregate all costs for allocation to activities.
