MILTON KEYNES CHORALE Registered charity number 1178002

TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 JULY 2022

The Trustees present their report and accounts for the year ended 31 July 2022 and confirm that they comply with requirements of the Charities Act 2011, MK Chorale’s Constitution, and the Charities SORP (FRS 102).

The objects of the charity are to advance, improve, develop, and maintain public education in, and appreciation of, the art and science of music in all its aspects by any means the trustees see fit, including through the presentation of public concerts and recitals in and around Milton Keynes.

Review of Activities and Achievements

The choir recommenced face to face rehearsals in September and in November returned to putting on concerts with a performance of Handel’s Messiah . The annual ‘Christmas with Chorale’ sadly did not take place due to the return of Covid. The annual ‘Bring and Sing’ event was held with Haydn’s Creation, and this attracted a sizeable number of singers. In March, Faure’s Requiem and Cantique de Jean Racine, together with Rebecca Dale’s When Music Sounds were performed to a packed audience. In June, the choir celebrated the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with a performance in Milton Keynes Theatre entitled ‘ Crowning Glory’ along with a VIP reception. This concert comprised a selection of music associated with the Queen at the time of her Coronation. Little was it known then that within three months the Queen would be no more. In July, MK Chorale was invited to perform again alongside other choirs in Campbell Park, Milton Keynes, bringing the wider Milton Keynes community together.

During the year, the Trustees met on seven occasions, and these were by way of Zoom and face to face meetings. Much of the year has been an assessment of restarting rehearsals and the planning of live performances.

Future Plans

The pattern of meetings, rehearsals and concerts are in place for the next few years, but the Trustees are well aware of the effect of Covid.

Financial Review

Income for the year was £42,511 and expenditure was £50,185 giving a deficit of £8,992. Full information can be seen in the annual accounts.

Total reserves on 31 July 2021 were £16,114. Whilst this is a significant fall during the year, the Trustees believe this is sufficient to fund the choir’s future plans.
