## The Map of Australia Trust ## **Annual Report: Year ending 1[st] July 2025** ## **Chair’s Report** This year, The Map of Australia Trust has continued its important role in maintaining the Map of Australia and telling the story of the Australians at Hurdcott Camp during the First World War. A key highlight remains our annual ANZAC Day Service, which brings together the community in remembrance and reflection. This meaningful event continues to be at the heart of our activities, providing an opportunity for individuals and families to pay their respects. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our trustees and dedicated volunteers whose commitment ensures the success of our work. Their time, effort, and passion are vital to sustaining the Trust’s activities. We remain committed to preserving the significance of The Map of Australia and ensuring it continues to serve as a place of remembrance for future generations. Helen Roberts Chair of Trustees ## **About the Trust** The Map of Australia Trust is a registered charity established to preserve and promote the historical and commemorative significance of The Map of Australia, a chalk badge carved into the hillside by Australian soldiers during the First World War. The Trust exists to: - Maintain and protect the site - Promote public awareness of its historical importance - Support acts of remembrance and commemoration ## **Governance** The Trust is governed by a board of eight trustees, who oversee its activities, strategy, and compliance. The trustees are supported by a small group of committed volunteers, who play a vital role in delivering events and maintaining the Trust’s presence in the community. ## **Objectives and Activities** During the year, the Trust has focused on: - Organising and delivering the ANZAC Day Service - Maintaining the site and its significance as a place of remembrance - Supporting community engagement with the Trust’s purpose - Ensuring good governance and ongoing sustainability ## **Key Achievements** - Successfully delivered the annual ANZAC Day Service with strong community participation - Maintained the Trust’s site as a respectful and accessible place of remembrance - Continued engagement with volunteers and supporters - Sustained effective governance through trustee oversight ## **Our Impact** The Trust provides an important opportunity for remembrance and reflection within the community. The ANZAC Day Service: - Brings together individuals, families, and veterans - Supports public understanding of historical sacrifice - Strengthens community connection through shared remembrance "The service provides a meaningful way for the community to come together and honour those who gave so much." ## **Volunteers** Our work would not be possible without our volunteers.
