Background: 

The Wave of Peace (WAVE) is a volunteer-led charitable organisation dedicated to advancing and promoting human rights. Founded in 2016 by Shaimaa Mohamed Hassan, WAVE was officially registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in 2018. The charity’s purpose is to advance human rights and promote peace, social justice, and human dignity through education, advocacy, and community engagement. 

The charity is governed by a Board of Trustees, all of whom serve on a voluntary basis and receive no remuneration or financial benefit from the organisation. The trustees confirm that the Annual Report and Financial Statements for the year ending 1 April 2025 have been prepared in accordance with the CIO’s governing document and the Statement of Recommended Practice and comply fully with Charity Commission requirements.

Collaboration underpins WAVE’s strategic approach to delivering its charitable objectives. Wave of Peace (WAVE) actively engages in partnership working and professional networks with other organisations that share its values and aims, in order to enhance effectiveness, extend reach, and maximise public benefit. Through these collaborative arrangements, WAVE continues to advance human rights, support marginalised and under-represented communities, and contribute to the promotion of a more peaceful, inclusive, and just society.

The Trustees operate a risk management framework that has been in place since the organisation’s establishment and is reviewed on an ongoing basis. This framework is designed to identify, assess, and manage the principal risks faced by the charity and includes: 

- continuous monitoring and review of risks that may affect the charity’s activities, operations, and sustainability; 

- the application of systems, controls, and procedures to mitigate identified risks; 

- the implementation of measures intended to minimise the potential impact of any risks that materialise; and 

- the delivery of regular training for WAVE staff and volunteers, including Strategic Communications training, Fundraising and Digital Skills training, and Cyber Security awareness, to support safe, effective, and responsible practice, including online safety.

Activities focused on raising awareness of<br>human rights issues, promoting public understanding and support for<br>human rights, and supporting communities affected by conflict,<br>displacement, discrimination, and human rights violations.<br>Some of the events and activities delivered include:<br>Arabic–English Language and Cultural Exchange<br>Weekly Arabic–English Language and Cultural Exchange sessions<br>continued to take place every Wednesday in an inclusive, safe, and<br>welcoming environment. These sessions brought together individuals<br>from diverse backgrounds, fostering meaningful dialogue, promoting<br>cultural understanding, and strengthening community cohesion while<br>ensuring that all participants felt valued and respected.<br>International Human Rights Awareness Activities<br>Throughout the year, WAVE organised a range of events and activities to<br>mark key international human rights dates, including International Human<br>Rights Day_,_International Women’s Day_,_and the International Day for the<br>Eliminationof Racial Discrimination.Theseinitiativesaimednotonlyto|

Promoting Equality Through Local Engagement 

Wave of Peace (WAVE) promotes equality and human rights through active engagement with local communities and community-led networks. A key example of this work is WAVE’s representation on the Equality and Human Rights Panel (EHRP), alongside other Voluntary and Community Sector organisations in the London Borough of Southwark. 

Through its participation on the Panel, WAVE contributes to discussions, reviews, and the provision of constructive feedback and recommendations on community-relevant equality initiatives and frameworks, including the Southwark Equality Framework (SEF) and the Southwark Stands Together (SST) programme. This engagement helps supporting more inclusive, fair, and community-responsive outcomes.
