WAVE was founded by Shaimaa Mohamed Hassan in 2016 and was registered as CIO in 2018 for advancing and promoting human rights. WAVE Trustees confirm that the CIO's annual report and financial statements for the year ended 31st March 2022 comply with the current requirements of the CIO's governing documents and the Statement of Recommended Practice according to the Charity Commission recommendation. Nations charters, international laws, the Universal Declaration of Human
Rights and covenants on civil, political, social, economic and cultural
rights. Our trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the charity
commission on public benefit. Trustees followed the good practice
guidance to run the charity effectively and comply with the legal duties.
WAVE trustees and volunteers continued to work to meet the charity’s
objectives and the need of beneficiaries.
WAVE team and volunteers organised a number of events and developed
and delivered training programmes and activities to educate the public
and raise awareness of human rights issues in the UK and abroad to
promote public support for human rights. We collaborated with other
similar organisations to deliver activities online and face-to-face.
Some of the activities delivered include:
The WAVE team organised an International Women's Day event in
March 2023 to fully embrace equality and celebrate the achievements of
Black, Asian, and ethnic minority women. WAVE collaborated with other
community organisations, and the event brought together community
members, families, and groups, including Black, African, Asian, Arab,
and Latin American communities. The event featured music, food, dance
performances, and workshops. It took place at Walworth Methodist
Church, 54 Camberwell Rd, London SE5 0EW.
WAVE has a representative member on the Equality and Human Rights
Panel (EHRP). The EHRP consists of representatives from Voluntary and
Community Sector Organisations (VCSOs) working in the borough of
Southwark. The main purpose of the panel is to provide constructive
feedback on Equality Analysis documents produced by the council and to
act as a critical friend to the council, assisting it in meeting its obligations
under the Public Sector Equality Duty
Arabic English Language and Culture Exchange weekly sessions
continued to play a key role in promoting mutual respect and
understanding of different cultures. The sessions take place every
Wednesday in an inclusive environment where everyone feels
comfortable and equal. The sessions help participants gain knowledge,
skills, and confidence to promote human rights, provide the group with a
valuable counter-argument to negative stereotyping, and tackle problems
such as racism, Islamophobia, sexism, and extremism. These sessions also
aim to facilitate the integration of refugee and migrant participants.
The WAVE team and volunteers organised several events and activities to
promote human rights and peacebuilding education, aiming to promote
