Volunteers

All Trustees act on a voluntary, no-fee basis. During the period the St. Giles Building Preservation Trust employed a Finance Officer, Mrs. Helen Mary Masters, who is unpaid in this capacity.

Activities & Objectives

During the period, the Trust received a donation of £42K from a Colchester ‘Masonic Association’, the first major receipt in the Trust’s history. The effects of the COVID pandemic have put all activities of the Trust on hold and, although there are several capital expenditure projects to be managed, the pandemic setbacks mean that these projects are yet to be reviewed and authorised for disbursement.

All activities are classified in line with the Trust’s Memorandum and Articles of Association.

Achievements & Performance

The achievements of the Trust and its performance have been very much governed by the global COVID pandemic which ended close to the period end.

Public Benefit

The Trust encourages the general public to visit the Centre which has again become possible since the lifting of restrictions caused by the COVID pandemic. It has contacted and been in communication with English Heritage, Colchester Borough Council and Colchester & Ipswich Museums to enhance the offering to the public as an accessible place to be visited in Colchester, offering tours and future ad hoc access.

Preservation activities will be planned and prioritised during the year 2021-22 together with further activities to boost fundraising.
