## **1. STRUCTURE & MANAGEMENT**

Healing Paws Animal Rescue aim to achieve a clear sense of purpose and direction for the future and the priorities of the Charity. We continue to work to our 10 year Strategic Plan, initially created in 2018 though with flexibility provided through an annual review to ensure we take account of a changing context.

The Trustees recognise they need to continue to augment policies and procedures in the light of changes in animal welfare law both in Greece and the UK as well as changes due to Brexit.

We continue to update our strategy and direction in light of changes to the external market and this includes:

- Defining and refining our core values and focus

- Setting clear strategic goals and objectives

- Having a clear operating plan with detailed actions and monitoring

- Donor engagement to input to our activities and providing an external view of our strengths, weaknesses and opportunities

The Strategic Plan is therefore not static but dynamic. Although the strategic goals remain consistent and our means of achieving them may change on a regular basis. To ensure strong governance and oversight, priority actions are discussed and potentially revised quarterly with Trustee meetings throughout the year as and when necessary. The Trustees keep in contact with each other on a daily basis to discuss current developments that arise. The Trustees also undertake an annual review.

The first step in recruiting a Trustee is seeking interest from the charities volunteers and supporters who have already been involved in the work of the charity and have the skills and expertise required to fulfil the requirements of managing the charity.

**2. ACTIVIITIES & OBJECTIVES**

_“Our vision is a future where all animals are provided with a responsible and loving home for life and that Healing Paws Animal Rescue is recognised as a high-quality provider of animal welfare and community services on the Greek_

_Island of Zakynthos”_

Our LONG-TERM Vision is to build a Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre on the Island.

During this year, we have continued to pursue our long-term ambition to have a dedicated rescue and rehabilitation centre on the island of Zakynthos. This would provide a safe, infection control and cost-effective way to properly care for the animals prior to transport to their new adoptive homes in the UK.

We continue to seek donations to support the work of the charity and its long-term objectives to provide food, veterinary care and safe shelter for the many rescues. As well as continuing seeking funds to build the shelter on the land purchased previously..

Basic work has started on the purchased land i.e. land clearing and fencing. Further work will be done in stages to complete the build of the shelter as we raise funds to complete the stages.

In this year we have homed 118 dogs, mainly puppies and 15 cats, mainly kittens to the UK. We adhere to and aware to UK customs and legislation as well as Greek regulation procedures to transport the rescued animals from Zakynthos, Greece to their adoptive home in the UK.

In response to GDPR our Privacy Policy was updated and added to the charities website as well as the Cookie Policy.

We continue to be registered with the Fundraising Regulator. Continue to apply for grants and we have registered with fundraising platforms.

We have three key areas within our mission:

- To promote humane behaviour towards animals, on the Greek island of Zakynthos, by providing appropriate care, protection, treatment and security for animals which are in need of care and attention by reason of sickness, maltreatment, poor circumstances or ill usage.

- To educate the public in matters pertaining to animal welfare in general and the prevention of cruelty and suffering among animals.

- To rescue animals and rehome them and to do whatever we can to improve the living conditions of the strays and homed animals in Zakynthos.

## **3. ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE INCLUDING PUBLIC BENEFIT**

We have continued to achieve our goals to home dogs from the shelter in Zakynthos to adopted families in the UK successfully. As well as foster homes and rescue placements. Income generation has not been as high than previous years, due to the financial climate, we still managed to keep finances in credit and able to pay all costs for vet fees, food and maintenance at the current shelter.

To accomplish our vision and mission, Healing Paws Animal Rescue has identified six Key Focus Areas, each of the objectives and activities are detailed within our Operating Plan:

- Governance arrangements

- Adoption, fostering and rescue placements

- Income generation

- Marketing and communications

- Community programmes

- Monitoring and performance

As detailed earlier, our long-term ambition is to have a dedicated rescue and rehabilitation centre on the island of Zakynthos. This would provide a safe, infection control and costeffective way to properly care for the animals prior to transport to their new adoptive homes.

We continue to seek donations to support the work of the charity and its long-term objectives,

The Trustees are fully aware of their legal requirement and obligations required to the Charity Commission’s public benefit guidance as well as the Charities Act 2022. Future Trustees will also be asked to be fully aware of these two requirements.

- Benefit Aspect – our purpose is beneficial by rescuing stray dogs and cats and providing them with a caring adoptive family who want to care for a pet and be part of family. This is identifiable by the follow up reports from adopters who inform us how well the pet has settled in and how it has been a welcome addition to family. In the rare occasion that detriment or harm results, there is emergency procedures in place for immediate action.

- Benefit to the public in general is to give a prospective adopter the option to choose the perfect pet for them to share their life with.

- The Trustees do not give rise to incidental personal benefit, apart from the success in helping the public to find their pet.

- The Trustees understand the purpose of the charity and the benefits of delivering and making decisions to ensure benefits are provided.

## **Independent examiner's statement**

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination (other than that disclosed below *) which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

- the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or

- the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
