Nurses Reaching Out (NRO) runs a project in Northern Uganda which concerns the provision of food and drink for hospitalised patients who are without a family member to look after them. It is customary to have an attendant during a period of hospitalisation to provide meals to a patient. Patients who need the meal provision from NRO are identified during hospital admission and a referral is made by nurses and/or hospital social workers to the cooks employed by the charity. The patients identified for this provision by nurses and/or the hospital social worker receive meals and refreshments for the period of their hospitalisation. The project feeds approximately 20-25 patients in each meal sitting.
