Nurses Reaching Out (NRO) runs a project in Northern Uganda which concerns the provision of food and drink for hospitalised patients who are without a family member to look after them. It is customary to have an attendant during a period of hospitalisation to provide meals to a patient. Patients who need the meal provision from NRO are identified during hospital admission and a referral is made by nurses and/or hospital social workers to the cooks employed by the charity. The patients identified for this provision by nurses and/or the hospital social worker receive meals and refreshments for the period of their hospitalisation. The project feeds approximately 20-25 patients in each meal sitting. Locally these patients Summary of the main are described as destitute and as such receive the provision free of activities undertaken for the charge. Without the meal and refreshment provision provided those public benefit in relation to patients without family or an attendant are at risk of hunger, malnutrition these objects (include within and dehydration. this section the statutory declaration that trustees have In planning and prioritising our activities for this financial year, the had regard to the guidance trustees have reviewed the guidance on public benefit issued by the issued by the Charity Charity Commission at our trustee meetings and ensured that we are in Commission on public full compliance. benefit)

Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

Unfortunately, the monthly donations to Nurses Reaching Out that we had seen reduce in the previous year, continued to fall and our Trustee’s met to decide what the charity needed to do in order to continue with a reduced income. A difficult decision, and one that was not taken lightly, was made in August to stop the Baby Project. This decision meant that the charity funds would now solely go to the project that provides meals to vulnerable patients. As a group of Trustees, we are extremely grateful to the individuals and organisations that have continued to support Nurses Reaching Out’s work and enabled our feeding project to continue.

You may choose to include additional information, where relevant about:

The charity raised money during this financial year by means of charitable donations from individuals and from Kingdom Faith Church. The aftermath of the pandemic, the Ukraine war, the Israel and Gaza war and the cost of living crisis has undoubtedly had a continued detrimental impact on our finances and we have had to cut back our assistance in line with available funding.
