## **Section C Objectives and activities**

**Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document**

The relief of sickness and the preservation of health among people living in low and middle income countries, including but not by way of limitation through the exchange of knowledge and the provision of education and resources.

Nurses Reaching Out (NRO) runs two projects in Northern Uganda. The first project concerns the provision of food and drink for hospitalised patients who are without a family member to look after them. It is customary to have an attendant during a period of hospitalisation to provide meals to a patient. Patients who are in need of the meal provision from NRO are identified during hospital admission and a referral is made by nurses and/or hospital social workers to the cooks employed by the charity. Th patients identified for this provision will receive meals and refreshments for the period of their hospitalisation. Locally these patients are described as destitute and as such receive the provision free of **Summary of the main** charge. Without the meal and refreshment provision provided those **activities undertaken for the** patients without family or an attendant are at risk of at hunger and **public benefit in relation to** dehydration. **these objects (include within this section the statutory** The second project provides a baby kit to accompany government **declaration that trustees have** maternity kit. The baby kits contain essential items to clean and keep a **had regard to the guidance** new born baby warm. The kits are delivered to medical centres maternity **issued by the Charity** facilities that have partnered with NRO. An educational package has **Commission on public** accompanied the kits to inform of the benefits of antenatal checks and **benefit)** encourage pregnant women to attend these checks. The baby kit is received by mothers at the last antenatal check. Centres which have the kits have seen increasing numbers of women attending antenatal checks and deliveries increasing.

In planning and prioritising our activities for this financial year, the trustees have reviewed the guidance on public benefit issued by the Charity Commission at our trustee meetings and ensured that we are in full compliance.

## Section D Achievements and performance

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

Unfortunately, NRO has seen it’s monthly donations fall. Our fundraising activities have been somewhat limited with less people and grant giving organisations donating to charities. We are extremely grateful to those who have given financially to the charity. The trustees reviewed the meal service and revisions were made to the ingredients used for the meal provision. The charity has been able to continue to run both projects and keep the staff we have employed to run these projects.

## **Further financial review details (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant about:

- the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising);

- how expenditure has supported the key objectives of the charity;

The charity raised money during this financial year by means of charitable donations from individuals and from Kingdom Faith Church. The aftermath of the pandemic, the Ukraine war and the cost of living crisis has undoubtedly had a continued detrimental impact on our finances and we have had to cut back our assistance in line with available funding.

The sum of £1,933 in HMRC Gift Aid was also received during the period which related to 2018 – 2021.

- investment policy and objectives including any ethical investment policy adopted.
